Well made and constructed. Grip area is OK. Weight is not particularly heavy and the sliding sleeve works extremely well in protecting the point. Simple, clean design well worth its price.

this is an awesome AWESOME pencil, my boyfriend got this and a sketchbook for me for christmas, I love it to death and its balanced has a great weight and is sturdy and well built. I am also left handed and it doesnt get all wonky like other pencils i love the way it writes and even looks.

a little heavy-weight, but well balanced and comfortable to write with. negative point is that the lead makes a little scraping noise on the paper - even tried changing the leads or the paper - there is still the same result.

This review is from A.G. Spalding & Bros BRM114 Mechanical Pencil - 0.5 mm - Maple Wood - Dark Brown Body
This pencil is very light due to it being plastic surrounded by a veneer of real wood. The metal is of the frosted variety you see on cheap jewelry, except for the clip. You can tell this by looking at the plunger in the sample pictures here.

The pencil makes noise as you write, not from the writing tip, but due to the plunger being able to wobble back and forth. This isn't lead shifting, as gravity keeps it on one side of the lead holder, the plunger is able to make noise when the pencil is gently shaken at any angle.

Due to the two 5 star reviews here, I bought this. I am really disappointed. I cannot recommend this.

I love this mechanical pencil though it is a bit thicker than most. The brown wood is really lovely if you're wondering which color to get. It has much more character than the other colors. The build, as expected, is exceptional, the weight is just right, and it has a comfortable center of gravity. The clip is essential!

This review is from A.G. Spalding & Bros BRM114 Mechanical Pencil - 0.5 mm - Maple Wood - Orange Body
I love this pencil. Pure wood but mechanical pencil. Always loved the way real wood feels, but the advantage here is that you do not need to sharpen as it is mechanical pencil. Love it and it feels very nice in hand, the wood touch.

I am able to also push the lead pipe back into the pencil while at the same time presing on the click. Then just re-click it to have the lead come out. I do not know if its meant to be like that, ...I think it is but would like to know more. So, it works as retractable pencil but requires that you push it in. I only do that if placing the pencil in my shirt pocket, otherwise I keep the graphite point out.

Got a lot of compliments on this pencil and will buy one more in different wood color to use either with color graphite or different graphite hardness.

Superb pencil.
