The innovative design of these SAI brush pens from Akashiya is what helped it win the 2007 ISOT Stationery of the Year award in Japan. SAI brushes have the potential to revolutionize painting as we know it, allowing artists to create beautiful artwork from an elegant, non-messy tool. The brushes are a great combination of traditional sumi-e (Asian art) brush quality and modern brush functionality and portability.

SAI brushes are the first of its kind to reproduce water-soluble brushes in a self-contained, disposable form. It can be used with a water brush (such as the Pentel Aquash) to produce amazing gradients and effects. Colors can be mixed with water to create lighter shades, and colors can be combined with other colors to create new colors, etc. The brushes are always ready to paint whenever you are, and you can cap them when you are finished. No wonder they created so much buzz in Japan. JetPens is proud to search out great products like these and bring them to you!

There are 20 beautiful individual brush ink colors available. A special pigment ink waterproof outline brush is also available for drawing purposes.

Like many watercolors, the SAI brush colors other than Black are not light resistant, so colors will fade if kept in sunny areas. These brushes are perfect for journaling or painting artwork for indoors.

I really wanted to like this, but it is just...average. The pictures make them look so beautiful, but I couldn't even get mine to blend with water! You have very limited options for effects(if you can tell me how to blend them, please do) Neat idea, but I prefer the traditional watercolor paints and brush.

An interesting pen. I need to play around with it some more to get the full effects of its capabilities, but it has a nice flow. Looks and acts like a watercolor and even darkens with layers. Just a little streaky when making short strokes, but that could just be my inexperience with the medium. First time trying a watercolor marker and I enjoy its fluidity and bright color. Definitely recommend trying it!
