It's a really nice pencil; it's quite sturdy and it seems like it will last a long time. I have two warnings though. Getting used to the spinning to advance the lead is fine, but spinning it back and having to press it back down on a hard surface (it hurts when you do it with your finger) to hide the lead again is a bit frustrating. I still forget which way it advances and which way it goes back so sometimes I spin it back in without realizing. My second warning is for those who have never written with a coloured lead pencil: This will not erase, and it feels like writing with a coloured pencil. It's not as smooth as a normal pencil.

This is a useful pencil for annotating books for researchers. The twist-to-advance mechanism works fine (occasionally makes a little "twang" noise, but it's very solidly held in place), but it means it can only hold a single lead at once. The leads for the Autopoint pencils are very short, and you'll need to purchase replacements in relatively short order--especially because the red lead can be quite brittle.
