I've been practicing gesture drawing and one of my main issues is that I tighten
up and always tend to focus on detail instead of the basic lines that make up a
gesture. So, I wanted to find something that wrote a bold line, limiting my
natural urge to focus on detail, wasn't too expensive, and wasn't as messy as
After browsing through the JetPens catalog for a few minutes I discovered this
guy, and I'm so glad I did! It met my needs perfectly. It's got a big fat lead
that you can sharpen to a point for detail, or in my case, just wear it down and
you end up with a thick, bold line perfect for gesture drawing.
The clutch itself is solidly built, no rattling noises or loose parts. It feels
great in my hands, the wood provides a nice grip, and it's got a nice weight to
it. I had an internal battle about whether to buy the aluminum or wooden clutch,
but I definitely feel I made the right decision in going with the wooden one.
There's just something so warm and cozy about holding this pencil that I pretty
much carry it everywhere.
I highly recommend this product for gesture drawing, and to help you loosen up
when sketching. I do regret not purchasing a softer lead to go along with this
guy. The HB lead that comes provided is fine, but I like a darker line.
