Bought this as a refill for the red journal after I used it up. This one is nowhere near as nice as the lined one! There is no fabric reinforcement on the spine, no cute little info in the front or piece of ribbon as a bookmark. Just plain pages. Will get lined refill next time...

I prefer these plain journals because I write several pages at a time, and I like to make drawings. Lovely paper.

This book is best for doodlers and mind-mappers. The graph one is okay, but sometimes the lines get in the way. I try to buy these when available, because they get scooped up so quickly! When will the 10 packs come in? Hurry!

I'd prefer a somewhat heavier paper. It takes some fussing to get clean images of the pages if you use both sides and want them scanned in for further use on the computer. If you expect to do that a lot, the Maruman Memnosyne blank books are better even tho the paper weight is similar. I haven't done a ton with varied inks in the Exacompta yet, but if you just want blank paper for sketching and doodling it should be ok. It seems reasonably bleed proof given the paper weight. Beats the hell out of newsprint.

The binding is not a lay flat style, which means it is not as lefty friendly as I might like.

Each page has a small perforated cut out that will allow you to keep your place. I don't think the lack of a bookmark should be a major ding given that.

This one and the graph one are the only 2 I will ever use. Great paper quality, sewn signatures mean a great product that won't fail apart on you. I highly recommend!

I am a smooth paper kind of person when it comes to notebooks and this one fits the bill so well. Plus it's just a bit bigger than the usual pocketbooks. The paper's on the thin side, but that's what I like. Not a fan of heavy stock. Don't know how I'll be using this yet but more than likely it'll be some kind of written journal. It's definitely on my 'order more' list.

The Exacompta Forum Plain Journal uses beautiful paper-very white and smooth. I use it as a sketchbook because I like the size, the paper quality, and because it's binding is made out of signatures sewn together I know that it is going to hold up! The covers are nice, not impressive; however, I appreciate that because this is a 200 pages journal that the covers are not thicker-just enough to protect the pages. I'll have to see how it looks when filled up before deciding to get the one with the leatherette cover.

I like these best when used in the leatherette cover, but the plain journal works great on its own. It's a good choice if you'd like to decorate the cover yourself.
