I used to buy all the limited edition Field Notes releases, including the
National Crop Edition, but this is the last set I'll buy. The paper is just too
thin and poor quality to use with fountain pens. For truly good paper quality
there are better choices like Clairefontaine and Rhodia. In comparison, Field
Notes seems more like a lifestyle brand capitalizing on the nostalgia trend.

I like the idea behind the Fields Notes Brand, but they are more like a novelty
item, no doubt the materials are top notch, but the brand works most because of
nostalgia than because it is useful.
The memo books itself are of the appropriate size for a pants pocket, but the
paper and cover itself aren't as durable. They have a very resistant edition in
their catalog though.
This set was very delightful, the information included in each notebook was very
interesting, so was the poster.

I love field notes notebooks. I love this edition because it brings back the
feeling of a time when the US was proud of it's farms and produced it's own
food, when buying local was the only way you could buy! These are great little
notebooks I use for everything, and this set has a lot of history and spirit.

Field Notes are great! This special edition is lovely. I've written on it with
pencil, gel pen, fountain pen. No problems. A perfect memo book. Major issue
with these is remembering to take them out of your pocket so you don't send them
through the laundry...

Thus far, no problem using this product with a fountain pen. I have tried both a
Sheaffer 444 and a Pilot Prera with these pads. The Prera seems to do better,
but it is Japanese fine, so it is more like writing with a gel, etc. These pads
will probably not like a medium or broad fountain pen nib. I was happy with the
series packaging and the set.
Definitely not Clairfontaine but I like them.

Field Notes Color Cover Memo Book - Day Game - 3.5" X 5.5" - 48 Pages - 5 mm Dot Grid - Pack of 3
I don't use fountain pens (ja ja I know) but this did fine with a Uni power tank
and a gel pen. I have a feeling though that I'll mostly be using pencil in here,
smearing ain't no thang. I like the fact that they are beautiful little books
but the insides are not so precious that writing in them is anxiety-inducing
(like moleskines are for me). They exude a peppy "let's do this!" attitude and I
want to write everything in them. Seriously. I did not think I'd feel this
connection with a notebook. Weird. And cool!

Field Notes Memo Book - Original Cover - 3.5" X 5.5" - 48 Pages - Mixed - Pack of 3
I love my Field Notes. I've had people complain about how expensive they are,
but you can't get personality and quality like this cheap. A simple notebook
for everyday sketching, doodling, note taking, whatever. Also they're made in
America.

Yay my first field notes!
I see why it's such a "cool" thing to own. I wasn't sure what the heck I'd be
memo-ing but these are so pretty with their glossy lettering on the cover and
beautiful paper that I couldn't resist. So I'm going to memo the heck out of
these - it will save me the trouble of locating all those silly slips of paper
with book notes, quotes, songs, random stuff. And I'm going to buy a
subscription to Field Notes (check their website). I'm so excited! Yay! (who
gets excited over memo books? Stationery nerds).

Field Notes Color Cover Memo Book - Northerly Limited Edition - 3.5" X 5.5" - 48 Pages - 5 mm Graph - Pack of 3
It i a good quality memo book. These are great for ballpoints and pencils.
Rollerballs and fountain pens show and bleed through the other side.
The cover has a plastic like coating to it but still absorbs ink (does not make
much sense to me either) and the paper is smooth with the white lines barely
noticeable.
The memo book is able to take the abuse of your front and back pockets so don't
be afraid to carry and use it.

This item in particular, is very well made, but, I found no use for it after a
while, the layout definitely wasn't appropriate for note taking, nor to track
sales.

This is like the Field Notes starter kit, beware, there is no going back. The
concept is very interesting, even for me that I'm Latino/Hispanic. I grew
surrounded by coffee plantations in Costa Rica, and my paternal family owned one
plantation in the central valley, so I identify with the farming culture in some
way or another and the depicted way of living by the Field Notes Brand is very
similar to my background.
The memo books itself are of the appropriate size for a pants pocket, but the
paper and cover itself aren't as durable. I consider this memo books more like a
nostalgia item than a true farm workers memo pad. They have a very resistant
edition in their catalog though.

All style over substance. The merit of these things is entirely in the
aesthetics with the retro cover colors, cute liner notes, and dot grid ruling.
Functionally speaking, for the money, these really ought to have a stitched
binding. The paper used is quite mediocre and inferior to even Moleskine. I
tried about a dozen different fountain pen inks and nearly all of them fared
poorly with this spongy paper that would probably be at home in your copy
machine. Prepare to be limited to ballpoints and gel pens. If that's your
inclination anyhow, then I'm sure you'll find these to be adequate.
