DescriptionSpecifications
Just as black is always in style, so are these Pitch Black Field Notes memo books. Minimalistic yet polished, the beauty of black is in the details. The covers are 100-lb French "Blacktop" with "Stealth Gray" text, and the books are bound with shiny black staples to match. Inside, the 50-lb Finch Opaque Smooth pages are printed with a light gray dot grid. These memo books will go with everything from a classy suit to an old leather jacket, so you can take them everywhere you go.

Like other Field Notes books, these are durable and flexible, designed to survive any pant pocket. They are bound with a rugged three-staple saddle-stitch process. Inside the front cover, you can write in your contact information and, with a sense of humor, indicate whether or not the person who returns your lost book will be rewarded. The inside back cover lists "practical" applications for the memo books such as #03, "Ninja Skills Acquired". The Field Notes story and further specifications are also presented. The books are manufactured and printed in the USA.

This pack includes 3 memo books, each containing 48 pages (24 sheets).

Not exactly fountain pen friendly but it goes great with my Koch Leather pocketbook holder/wallet. with my kaweco extra fine nibs there is A LOT of show through but rarely any bleed through, feathers like heck, and has crazy show through with just a black signo refill too. far from perfect but i find myself purchasing them over and over (probably because i can only use one side of every sheet) [or maybe its because i love the dot graph] either way these are alright and id recommend them for a pocketbook. Clairfontaine 1951s are way more fountain pen friendly but they arent pocketbooks :(

First Field Notes package. The three books are in great condition. The black is an excellent color. Nice touch to the binding with black staples. I am saving these for my clutch pencil. I will have to write another review. So far I am looking forward to these.

These are great notebooks, the binding is very secure and the paper is excellent for pencil, ballpoint, gel ink, and even markers. The covers are very rugged hence the name Field Notes. They are made to last until they are full without falling apart, and they do. I just finished my last one about a month ago and had to order more and I cannot recommend the dot grid pages enough. They are a great substitute for lines and helpful for sketching diagrams also.

The least mentioned fact about the Field Notes books is that they are only about 3 mm thick and flexible which means that they will go practically unnoticed in any pocket or bag. Once you start using them you will wonder how you ever survived without them. One recommendation for these Pitch Black ones is to get either a Uni-ball Signo Broad UM-153 Gel Ink Pen - White Ink or the Uni-ball Signo Angelic UM-120AC Gel Ink Pen - 0.7 mm - White Ink to go with these to fill in the inside of the cover since the Signo white ink shows up perfectly on these.

These are lovely. The dot grid is great, if you don't like grids or lines but are too sloppy on blank pages, try it. A good alternative to the orange "Expedition edition", if you don't want the synthetic paper.

I love my dot grid notebook. I'm getting ready to order more. I hope Field Notes makes dot grid a regular feature. Will order more of these or that Frence company, R----a, heh, heh.
