A warning: DO NOT. USE....
May 14, 2014
A warning: DO NOT. USE. THIS. IN. FOUNTAIN PENS. NO MATTER WHAT THE BOTTLE SAYS. I'd read this several times in other reviews, but didn't quite take it seriously until it ruined one of my favorite pens. The ink seems to be pigment- and not dye-based, so it will clog if you're not extra, extra careful.

Other than that, it's a decent ink. By decent I mean, like, useable. It's not a deep, intense black (more of a halfhearted gray, really) and tends to feather on cheaper paper. It's thin and works well in most of my dip pen nibs and doesn't stick or want to dry as easily as the India ink that I have.

However, the India ink actually smells kind of nice, with a sort of earthiness and...well, I assume you know how India ink smells. This stuff smells like death and the tears of small children with a hefty dose of what seems to be ammonia mixed in. It was awful enough that I thought the ink had gone bad at first, but it seems that all of them have the eye-watering, nose-burning quality of some of the stuff I worked with in my Chemistry class. Do not lean over the open bottle and take a breath. You (and your respiratory system) will regret it.

All in all it's a pretty good working ink, but it does have its downfalls. Stick with the more tried-and-true inks for your art if you can, but for the price, this is an okay investment.

This ink is too runny...

This ink is too runny for my dip pen. I've used it with several Speedball and a NIkko G nib and the ink pools.
