Kiss your paper with lush ink colors created by the French. Each 30 ml bottle has a unique rectangular shape that doubles as a pen rest. Pens can balance on the indented flat area on the top of the bottle near the cap. These bottles are known as "D bottle pen inks". The "D" refers to the old French unit of measure "la Demi Courtine".

J. Herbin was established in 1670 and is the oldest name in formal ink production in the world. It is the ink namesake used by renowned figures such as Napoleon Bonaparte and Victor Hugo of Les Miserables. M. Herbin created this line, "The Jewel of Inks", in his shop on the Rue des Fosses Saint-Germain in Paris in 1700. Capture a moment of history with these high-quality inks from J. Herbin at JetPens.

- 30 beautiful colors

The perfect shade of emerald green. Closely matches the swatch on the website, and flows evenly (used in Pilot Metropolitan pen). Not much else to add. If you like green ink, get this.

This is a beautiful medium green with blue undertones. It has beautiful shading even when I use it with my medium nib pen. On my computer, it resembles the Herbin swatch at this web site exactly. While I'd never write a business letter with this color, I never get tired using lierre sauvage to grade student papers or write in my planner.

This review is from J. Herbin Fountain Pen Ink - 30 ml Bottle - Perle Noire (Pearl Black)
Without a doubt the best black fountain pen ink in the world. A very deep black, with great flow, good lubrication, limited feathering and bleed-through on most papers, nice dry-time and very safe in all pens. I just wish that Jet Pens would stock the cheaper 100ml plastic bottles!

This review is from J. Herbin Fountain Pen Ink - 30 ml Bottle - Lie de Thé (Tea Brown)
A great brown color. As with the previous reviewer, I feel that it matches the swab on the site perfectly. This is a great alternative to a harsh black when journaling. It looks especially good on off-white paper.

Not "pensive violet purple":..., May 25, 2011

This review is from J. Herbin Fountain Pen Ink - 30 ml Bottle - Violette Pensee (Pensive Violet Purple)
Not "pensive violet purple": "Pensee" (noun, feminine) is the French name for the flower called "pansy" in English. There's a drawing of one on the label, and the petals are indeed very similar in hue to that of this ink.

This is not a colour I have much call for, but it is indeed a lovely, clean violet- a grown-up version of the ink ( AKA Waterman's Violet) that French primary school kids would use in their exercise and composition books.

Herbin inks are among the best in the world, and have been made to a very high standard indeed for centuries longer than most ink manufacturers have been in business. This superb, pure hue is no exeption. If you are a fan of violet and have not tried this one yet, I urge you to buy a bottle. More likely than not, it will not be your last.
