I just received my Kaweco Al Sport Raw (EF) today and I have to say, I am thoroughly impressed. Normally I wait a while before I write a review since frankly, most of the pens that I buy seem to have bugs that need to be sorted out before I have what I consider their normal state of repair. Not this little guy. Right out of the box after I fitted the cartridge it started writing, the experience is quite gratifying! For an EF, it is surprisingly smooth with a nice tight sharp line and the flow is perfect. I really try to not use superlatives as to me that lessens the impact of the review, like the reviewer has lost all objectivity, but I find it very difficult not to use them here, this is that great a pen.

Is it perfect? No. This is the first pen that does not have a snap on/off cap, so the twisting is new to me, but is that really an issue? Also, the available converters seem to be quite small, but as I have a syringe and don't mind filling cartridges with my bottled ink, this is moot. I also have two Lamy Al-stars, two Pilot Metropolitans and a Faber Castell Loom. The Lamy's are my to date EDCs, the Faber Castell needed substantial nib work upon arrival and the Pilots are a bit narrow for my fairly large hands, but write very well especially considering their price point, but the Kaweco AL Sport? I think I have a new EDC here.

Wonderful pen, but do get a clip for it. I agree with some of the other comments -- this is a fairly broad "extra fine" nib, probably more like a Japanese fine, definitely not an EF on a Pilot, for example. I spent some time grinding the nib down and smoothing it out and now it's one of my go to favorites. And yes, definitely pick a different material if you like your pens pristine and glossy. This will pick up scratches easily. Part of the charm, if you ask me.

broader point than I thought, seems like it's wider than a Japanese Fine, even. Good feel in the hand with an occasional skip or thinly-inked line. Do be aware that when posted the cap will create some small scratches on the pen body. Pretty soft aluminum and it's part of the charm in my view, but some may prefer a totally pristine look and if so you'd probably want one of the others.

Awesome pen for EDC.

Amazing- the raw aluminum body means there is no paint to wear off, and it writes extremely well. I throw it in my pocket and go. Perfect companion for my Moleskine Notebook.

Only get this is if you're okay with scratches and I mean a lot of scratches.

Get a food converter or just catridges because the squeeze converter is god awful.
