I can't agree with the other reviewers on this one. I bought this notebook for
use with fountains pens and have been thoroughly disappointed.
The paper in the notebook I received does not react well with fountain pen ink.
Unlike Clairefontaine and Rhodia papers, which are coated so that ink dries on
the surface and is not absorbed by the paper, the paper in the Kokuyo notebook
soaks ink into the paper. What happens after that has confounded me ever since I
started writing in it.
At first I thought it might be moisture or oils from my hand causing the effect,
so I started using a double-folded sheet of copier paper to mask my hand. No
such luck. At random spots on the paper, the ink feathers so severely that
letters become illegible blobs. It is as if the paper had been sprinkled with
water and allowed to partially dry before one started writing.
This effect occurs no matter what size nib I use. From fine to medium fine,
medium and broad, the ink randomly feathers to illegibility from page to page.
Jinhao, Faber-Castell, TWSBI, Pilot, Platinum, Noodler's, Pelikan, Acme, Edison,
Sheaffer's...Pen brand doesn't make a difference. Ink brand doesn't seem to
matter much either. I use mostly Diamine and J. Herbin inks, with one pen filled
with Waterman Serenity Blue. They all do the same thing.
I will finish the notebook, write it out, so to speak, but I will not be buying
another one. I probably won't purchase any more Kokuyo products either.
