Includes one pencil sharpener and two high-quality spare blades. Sharpener has two holes, one for cutting the wood and one for shaping the lead core.

Kum, a leader in the science of pencil sharpening, has a line of pencil sharpeners that target minute details of the pencil sharpening process. Each sharpener features an ultra-hard high-carbon steel blade held securely in place by a screw (versus a rivet which can cause the blade to wobble). The razor sharp blade fits inside a cone-shaped hole that has narrow grooves to reduce friction, allowing you to turn and sharpen pencils with less effort.

This particular sharpener allows you to first cut the wood of a pencil, then shape the pencil lead. This results in longer, sharper, and finer pencil points. It undertakes the challenging task of cutting through both wood and graphite beautifully. The rust resistant blade can last through sharpening thousands of pencils, but may be replaced if necessary when used constantly with pencils 3H and harder.

This is my favorite pencil...

This is my favorite pencil sharpener.

This is a two stage sharpening system. First use the hole on the left to cut down the wood around the lead, then use the hole on the right to sharpen the lead to a long, very sharp point.

Be careful not to be to aggressive with your sharpening as it is easy to eat through a pencil in short order. You can use the right hole to sharpen the lead several times before needing to shave down the wood again with the left hole.

Sometime I will only use the left hole when I want a long lead that doesn't need to be very sharp, such as while holding the pencil underhand and doing a more painterly style.

I use it for graphite pencils and for hard color pencils such as verithin and col-erase. I don't think the long narrow point will work well with softer leads.

The blades aren't the longest lasting that I have used, but an extra set is included and they can also be easily resharpened on a small stone or emery board.

Works with standard pencil grades like HB and softer. Does not work with hard drafting pencils like 6H for light colored layout lines. Breaks the lead every time. I tried Berol and Hi-Uni 6H Pencils.

This is a really good sharpener. I always get a nice point. My only criticisms are that it is not very durable, the plastic cover broke off and I am holding it together with tape, and the reservoir fills up fast. One needs to dump shavings after one sharpening.

It's a great deal! Just be careful with it!

As others have pointed out, I've noticed the sharpener does an excellent job of turning out a long, fine point. It ends up saving quite a bit of your pencil in the long run from constantly-broken lead. The replacement blades are also a big plus.

However, the plastic housing doesn't hold up well to tough use, and the cover can very easily break off (mine hasn't yet, but I've treated it gently).
