I bought one of these based on the other review and not wanting to shell out for an expensive pen I knew nothing about-- very impressed with the end result! I have medium sized hands and can still draw with the refill alone; no feathering and a quick drying dark ink. The tip is hard, but has some flexibility to it so you can get some variance in your lines/lettering. Definitely not like a brush, but it's not like the precision of a rollerball. Pleasant surprise, as I've bought other pens like this that often run into some kind of problem. Great for detail, too. When I run out of ink I'll probably buy the whole pen!

I bought this because I don't want to commit $27 before I know how the quality of the pen is.

I'm very pleased with what I got. The tip is kind of hard, but I guess it's because this is a super fine tip. If you have small hands, you can even use it as a pocket pen without the $27 body, which makes it a very good buy.

Wow. Really. Just wow. At first, the tip is super hard and scratchy, but it quickly softens up a bit and becomes an awesome brush-y pen. I am using it as is, just the refill without the body, and it feels wonderful. The ink is delightfully dark and is copic proof (not water proof though). I used it for a massive doodle on an A5 page, with a lot of blacked out areas, and only about fifth of the ink was used up. Really recommend it!

Comfortable to use, I'm hoping the ink never runs out since I really love using it for notes.

Damn near perfect. I've tried pretty much all lettering pens you can get in Japan - and this one is the best for a pocket-pen.
The refill works just fine as complete pen. Looks well and is safe from leaking. The grip and all is good, so I don't see why one should get the clunky shell. That makes it also relatively cheap.

It's a felt tip, and so over time the line loses precision and punch. But I still give it 5 stars, since in the same category all pens have the same issue. Until then this one produces a very fine line (with some flexibitiy in the tip) - for all I know, the sharpest compared to other normal lettering pens.

I ordered this pen from Jet Pens and love it. I did a full review with photos here: http://simplicityembellished.com/2010/07/kuretake-tegami-refillable-letter-pen- review/
This pen is a joy to work with and nearly exactly replicates how Etegami should look, even without sumi ink. Super fun and inexpensive.
