This kit contains a special sheet of paper that you can write on over and over using water instead of ink! Practice writing beautiful Japanese or Chinese characters as much as you want without worrying about wasting paper. Simply load the water brush pen with water and write on the paper provided. Your lines are dark and visible when wet. As they dry, they disappear, and you can write on the paper again with the water brush. Grids and lines on the paper serve as guides for writing Japanese or Chinese characters. Because you use water instead of ink, your hands and desk stay clean. The brush pen has a hard brush trip, which is easy to use even for novice brush pen users.

The kit includes one sheet of the practice paper (5.9 x 8.3 inches, or 15 x 21 cm) , a water brush pen, a booklet containing tips for forming beautiful well-proportioned characters, and a clear, flexible plastic file case for conveniently carrying your kit. The text in the booklet is Japanese, but there are diagrams that provide helpful instruction. The plastic file has a pen holder.

Hardest part was getting...

Hardest part was getting water into the pen, it needed either an eyedropper or a syringe. However I will say this was indeed useful in practicing my handwriting, as well as just overall studying. 30 seconds may not be enough for some people but you shouldn't be spending too long writing one character anyways. The harder you press, the longer the writing will stay. This set also lets you practice writing faster, there are boxes for kanji practice and lines for sentence writing, as well as a small blank area for general... drawing I guess? I would have said something about "what if i lose my pen" and stuff, but they have a folder that includes a slot specifically for your waterpen. If anything I would like to know the sheet usage life, but it hasn't shown any signs of deteriorate yet if ever (this special material is quite cool(cold) to touch). ANYWAYS, it's helped me a bunch with my studying and calligraphy, would recommend.

I really like this product. It is easy to figure out how to fill it up because of the pictures. You just have to make sure that when you run the water over it, it’s only a trickle and it will go in easy. Its smooth sailing with this. I don’t just use it for practicing my Japanese writing but writing sentences quickly and the occasional doodle. I would recommend this product to any one really.

This is pretty nifty and works exactly as described. My only problem was figuring out how to fill the pen cartridge with water, since I can't read the Japanese instructions. The cartridge is rigid plastic (not squeezable), and its opening is small (water won't flow in freely). I used a small eyedropper to fill the cartridge.

Other than that, my only other observation is that writing fades pretty quickly, which may hinder your ability to review your work. On the other hand, it definitely saves a lot of paper!
