Very smooth black lines....,
July 23, 2012
Very smooth black lines. Definitely does NOT write like a 0.3mm. Closer to
0.7mm maybe. Just FYI in case you were thinking this would give you a fine
line.

Kuretake Zig Letter Pen CocoIro Pen Refill - Super Fine - Black
Of all the ink colors in this line, black is the smoothest I've used!
It does take some getting used to, but the tricks this pen can do are cool!
Writes variable line widths, no skipping, smooth flowy ink, even when you write
fast. Its not scratchy to me, and I am very picky about scratchiness (Hi-Tec C
0.25 mm, I'm looking at you!).
Writiing in English or Japanese (I can't write in any other languages but I'm
sure it handles just the same) looks very pretty and you can even get a lttle
fancy with your script uusing the Letter Pens, without even trying too hard.
Yes, you can use these refills alone without the pen body, but I suggest you
get at least one pen body to try oout. I pprefer using the pen body not just the
refill alone.
(aand, sorry for the typos, I'mtyping on my phone!)

Kuretake Zig Letter Pen CocoIro Pen Refill - Brush Type - Black
Bought this pen to practice chinese calligraphy, and I'm pretty disappointed.
The pen writes very wet, causing the ink to feather and bleed on cheaper paper,
or take a small eternity to dry on higher quality paper. The brush part is made
of synthetic fiber and holds its shape surprisingly while still giving lots of
nice variation. Unfortunately, it's also super thin and really really hard to
control. I'll probably end up buying on the normal fine/extra fine refills next
time.

This review is from
Kuretake Zig Letter Pen CocoIro Pen Refill - Super Fine - Blood Red
This is a nice burgundy color, but it's a little too transparent to pass as real
blood -- it's got a sort of watercolor quality to it. It's very close to the
Marvy Uchida burgundy, but a little more transparent. It's roughly the same deep
red with a hint of purple as partly-dry blood (not as red as freshly-spilled
blood, not as brown as old dried blood) but not as opaque as real blood. (If
that's your thing, you might want to try using an opaque acrylic paint
instead.)
The Zig pens have a bit of a brush quality to them (with a small, mostly-stiff
point) that gives a line quality similar to a Tradio/Pulaman/Fountain Pentel,
but the Zig has many more color options. The Tradio/Pulaman/Fountain Pentels go
"scratchity scratchity scratchity" when you write -- and sometimes "spit" little
droplets in a random direction. The Zig writes more quietly, and has similar
thicks and thins, but without the occasional spitty surprise. I personally
prefer writing with the Tradio/Pulaman/Fountain Pentels, because their
scratchiness grips the paper firmly and their ink is a bit darker, but I suspect
most people will prefer the Zig's predictability and wider range of colors.

Kuretake Zig Letter Pen CocoIro Pen Refill - Super Fine - Blue Black
These are definitely my new favorite pens! Simple, sleek and inexpensive. I
started with brown and have just gotten blue black and black. They write smooth
and even better I love drawing with them. I actually use them in combination
with copics and they don't smear. I haven't had any problems with blotches or
dryness and for the amount of use they've been getting they still haven't run
dry. The pen bodies are cute and feel comfortable to write with. Also, I
definitely feel like they're better made than the Tradio Pentel pen body, which
its plastic grip feels cheep. The only problem I've had so far is when I first
got the black refill it needed a little dab of water to start running. Other
than that an overall great pen!

Kuretake Zig Letter Pen CocoIro Pen Refill - Super Fine - Blood Red
I wouldn't quite call it blood red, it has a bit of a... mauve, maybe? tint to
it. It's still a nice shade of red, and it writes beautifully. The super fine
tip makes it easy to write very small, but you can also write a little bit
thicker with it. Really looking forward to trying out more colors!

This review is from
Kuretake Zig Letter Pen CocoIro Pen Refill - Super Fine - Blood Red
It's more like slightly dried blood than fresh, bright red blood. It's a little
darker. The tip is a lot thinner and stiffer than I thought it'd be. When I
opened this up, some of the ink had spilled in the cap a bit, but I guess that's
normal... can't wait to start using this more though :)

The tip took a few paragraphs for me to get used to but now I love it. I think
this will be my new favorite pen. The ink is smooth and doesn't bleed through. I
bought this along with the pink body. I really like them both!

Almost scary how very much this ink looks like blood. There seemed to be a lot
of ink in the cap on arrival (which I thought might have been due to Winter
shipping) but looking at the pictures of the refills online, mine isn't
noticeably drained after all.

Kuretake Zig Letter Pen CocoIro Pen Refill - Super Fine - Black
If you like this pen or not will depend on how hard you press when you write. I
find this pen overly stiff and difficult to write with if I use my normal
writing style, but I have a very "light hand". The ink flow and writing look
much better when I press much harder then I prefer. The description here is
"Super Fine" and the package is marked "Extra Fine", and I am judging the line
weight to be .5mm.
If you have a "heavy hand" and have broken .5mm pencil leads, this may be the
pen for you. If you have a light hand like me, and have never broken even a
.3mm "B" pencil lead and find that .25mm (000) technical pens write very
smoothly, then don't bother with this pen.

Kuretake Zig Letter Pen CocoIro Pen Refill - Super Fine - Black
This is hands-down the smallest tip I've ever had the pleasure to use. It writes
so finely, that I was able to write a poem of 107 words on a 2" post it note,
with margins around the outside and between the paragraphs! I was amazed at the
quality of the writing, with very smooth, dark ink. The pen "refill" itself
handles just fine, but I used it with the Kuretake Zig Letter Pen CocoIro Pen
Body - Light Blue, and it was really very pleasant. Definitely recommend for
fine/small writing!

Kuretake Zig Letter Pen CocoIro Pen Refill - Super Fine - Cool Gray
Pros: Nice fine line, lovely bluish dove grey ink. "Extra Fine" really is EF. I
imagine it works great for writing characters with many detailed strokes.
Cons: These pens (well, refills, but I use them just as pens) tend to get blobs
of ink on the tip while capped, no matter how they're stored. On some papers,
they take an extremely long time to dry completely. I seem to be using up the
ink very quickly, sketching rather than writing.
YMMV: The pen holders look weird with the refill sticking out the back. I'm not
sure whether the blobbing problem has to do with something like the
heat/pressure from using the refills without a holder. If I were more motivated
to test them, I'd experiment, but I don't care for the holders and I like a
narrow pen, and this is working well enough.
Overall: I love this soft grey for sketching and for fine, small writing, and it
hasn't blobbed yet. It's functional enough to get a middle-of-the-road, 3-star
review.

Kuretake Zig Letter Pen CocoIro Pen Refill - Super Fine - Sepia
For me, there's no such thing as too fine a line. This is another super-fine pen
to love. A little scratchy, a little dry, and the tip feels a little
delicate--but no more than to be expected. The Kuretake Tegami Letter Pen
super-fine refill edges this one out because it's smoother and less dry with
easier line variation, even using rapid strokes (I don't have the Tegami nearby
to compare, so I'm going from memory on this). But I like this one enough to
pick up the black and the grey too. I'm enjoying it for intricate doodles and
warmups, detailed crosshatching and small lettering. The sepia has maybe a
little more grey in it than some variations on the colour.
Not waterproof!
I didn't purchase the holder (I think the way the refill pokes out the back is
unattractive, except maybe for the "starry night with glitter" black holder,
since it matches the glittery black ink reservoir), but I have no trouble using
the refill alone as a pen. Larger hands may want the holder for convenience, and
it does come in nifty colours.

Kuretake Zig Letter Pen CocoIro Pen Refill - Super Fine - Sepia
This pen writes very nicely; I didn't buy the body so I just write with the
refill and it's fine. The ink, however, runs out rather quickly and if i store
the pen point down, it bleeds a lot (therefore wasting ink) so I just store it
upside down. The colour is very nice and I love writing letters or writing small
with this pen! It's a little pricey now but it's a good buy!

Kuretake Zig Letter Pen CocoIro Pen Refill - Super Fine - Royal Blue
Nice color; it's usable for work. However, to get any variation in stroke width,
you have to press down pretty hard and even then, it's not much of a difference.
Pretty disappointed in that aspect. However, it is a good extra fine felt tip
pen. You could just use the refill by itself, because it includes a cap.
