DescriptionSpecificationsFrequently Asked Questions
Only wooden pencil connoisseurs know that all sharpened wooden pencils are not created equal. The length of the sharpened lead core can make a big difference in a \"make it or break it\" lead experience. This pencil sharpener, a 2004 winner of the Japan Good Design award, allows you to adjust the length of the sharpened lead core. Numbers are labeled on a dial, the larger the number the longer the sharpened lead core. Levels range from 1 to 5.

I could not decide if...

I could not decide if I should give this little number 4 or 5 stars (had I been able, I would have settled on 4.5 stars), but when I accepted that my only reason for downgrading its rating was the price, I decided on 5 stars based on its function.

Once you get over spending 5.00 USD for a plastic pencil sharpener, you can begin to appreciate it's function. I now find myself reaching for the Kutsuwa Stad K'Zool over my gold standard sharpeners that cost more and have higher ratings. It's thin enough to fit inside the pocket of a pencil case, and has a hole cover to minimize shaving leakage. It has settings that you can use to sharpen different pencils so that you can achieve the point you desire. I will definitely be re-purchasing this in the future, now that I finally accepted that I like it even more than those that automatically shift to give a balanced sharpening. So in conclusion, it's clear that even though I find it on the pricier side of the spectrum, you are getting what you pay for in this sharpener.

I don't like pencils, but this sharpener makes pencils fun. The dial-your-point feature works perfectly, and your pencil will be honed to a fine point or a broader, gentler tip. The cover to the shreddie receptacle can slide freely, but it's a minor distraction. I wish I could read Japanese so I'd know exactly how to use the push button on the dial... do I push it in to turn or not.

These are work great, look great, and are neat.
