Only wooden pencil connoisseurs know that all sharpened wooden pencils are not created equal. The length of the sharpened lead core can make a big difference in a \"make it or break it\" lead experience. This pencil sharpener, a 2004 winner of the Japan Good Design award, allows you to adjust the length of the sharpened lead core. Numbers are labeled on a dial, the larger the number the longer the sharpened lead core. Levels range from 1 to 5. The sharpener has two holes, one for standard wooden pencils and one for colored pencils.
Best pencil sharpener I have ever used. From electronic to generic Staples
pencil sharpeners, this pencil sharpener easily outclasses all the rest. Lead
breakage is rare unless it's from the pencil's lead problem. The cut is very
very clean. The orb/ball thing allows to you vary the sharpness of the lead and
the highest level gives a very sharp point.
My only complaint is that even with the cover, lead shavings do leak and escape
if you shake it. Not a big problem considering I usually empty it before going
I love this sharpener! And it works great for the triangular Uni Penmanship
pencils; the Kum two-hole "triangular and hexagonal" sharpener I tried first
didn't. The Kum's small hole was too small for the Uni and the large hole was
too large, causing me to use up too much of the pencil trying to get a good
point, and I still didn't manage to get a good point. This Stad sharpener is
perfect, though. The colored pencil hole puts a great point on the triangular
Uni without any waste. Nice pocketable (blue jeans) size, too, but make sure to
empty it first; I ended up with a pocketful of pencil shavings one day because
the top somehow popped off. Another nice feature is that this sharpener was
obviously designed to fit the hand perfectly while in use; feels extremely
natural, secure and comfortable while sharpening.
Great sharpener, it doesn't break pencil leads that my other sharpeners will.
The pencil shaving it makes is also one long piece instead of little shreds.
Also the sharpest point it makes is extremely pointy, which I love.
Works beautifully. Had a little trouble with some cheapie pencils but I think
that's due to the pencils' inferior quality. On my prismacolors, it sharpened
beautifully with no waste. All the settings give a great range for different
sharpness levels for different types of pencil work. Love it!
I had just recently bought this sharpener as I do art and I have tried all kinds
of pencil sharpener to find that most of them breaks the lead halfway into
sharpening it. My color pencils also breaks at the start or midway through the
sharpener. After buying this and trying it out, so far my pencils look better
and haven't had a lead break midway which is good! To change the size of the
sharpen lead is a plus to me, so far, I am very happy with my purchase.
