The retraction mechanism...
May 31, 2013
The retraction mechanism is fantastic, but the nib does dry out too quickly. The Pilot Vanishing Point pens maintain wet nibs much longer.

The best ink I've found for keeping the nib wet is Waterman Florida Blue, now called Serenity Blue. I haven't tried the other Waterman colors, but they may work as well.

Great pen, very well...

Great pen, very well made and substantial. Although somewhat heavy, the weight is distributed towards the nib. The nib is extremely smooth with good flow--definitely broader than most fine nibs, but not unmanageable. My only complaint is that although the end of the mechanism seems to be air-tight, the clip-retraction feature allows air into the body of the pen, drying out the nib. Left for a day or two unused, and the nib will be dry and takes a second to start writing. WARNING: This is no big deal for most inks, but I would never use this pen with Sailor or Platinum pigment-based inks. Because air can get into the body of the pen, the pigment ink will clog the nib.

Excellent solid Lamy pen. Lasts weeks without drying out even with being a capless pen.
