Lamy Joy Calligraphy Aluminum Cap Fountain Pen - 1.1 mm Nib Width

The Lamy Joy Calligraphy pen with 1.1mm nib is a great pen beginning/intermediate pen. Due to the fact that the nib is ground to a CURSIVE ITALIC, there is not as much line variation as with other fountain pens. Even though the line variation is less, the pen is always smooth and light, like a feather in your hand. The triangular grip, though not for everyone, is quite a comfortable grip if you prefer triangular grips. The elongated Lamy Safari type barrel is unlike many newer calligraphy pens with this shape in that the cap can be posted and will stay firmly posted on the barrel. The cap, made of aluminum, adds a bit of heft for those who prefer it. As previously stated, the cursive italic in a 1.1 nib does not produce as much variation as a stub italic, but it makes for a great everyday use pen. The durability is on par with the Lamy Safari, and it is well finished.

Note, for those who order Lamy pens from other places, this Lamy Joy comes with a converter, meaning that you don't have to buy one separately!

So far, the inks which seem to flow well in this pen are the native Lamy inks and Noodler's ink. So, stop by and pick up a couple of bottles of Noodler's ink while you're at it! They're one of the cheapest inks per milliliter and contain the most ink per bottle. Recommendation - Noodlers Warden's Ink Series- Bad Blue Heron. (My personal favorite). Try it out. You might like it.

UPDATE: I've had this pen for more than a year now and my opinion of it has not changed. Writes rather well with decent line variation. If you want to sharpen the nib, go ahead. Writes best when not posted. Posted makes it top heavy.

My experience with this pen is completely different than the other reviewer\'s. The cap just will not stay on for love nor money, neither when it is posted for writing nor when it is capped. For the $, I expected more, as I have paid as third as much for much better pens. It is reasonably smooth when writing, but I think it is headed for the garbage can. I am physically handicapped, and unable to constantly crawl around on the floor looking for the cap, which goes flying off with the slightest movement.
