I have never owned a Lamy before, this is my first one! I really am enjoying it. The nib writes very well, and smoothly. I think it is a good addition to the Parallel Pens I own. The Joy pens come in smaller widths compared to the Parallel Pens, so it is good for projects that require smaller lettering.

It's a also surprisingly lightweight. I really like the design. It is minimalist and contemporary looking, and I love the red and black combination. Jet Pens includes a converter with the pen, making it a really good deal. I definitely recommend it.

The Joy is not any better...

The Joy is not any better than a Safari. In fact, since it's a glossy black, they decided to make the edges a little sharper even. They should have rounded off the edges much more to make it more comfortable. The Joy is a little more expensive than the Safari, though it did come with a converter.

Since it's a little longer than a Safari, it's less portable. And while the cap can be posted, it looks a little ridiculous when you do so. On the plus side it comes in an attractive red (cardboard) box with a clear window.

Since the Lamy replacement nibs (including the calligraphy ones) fit all their pens (except the Lamy 2000), I don't recommend the Joy unless you like the long, tapered brush handle shape.

Comparing this w/ Rotring just about the same. The latter a great deal less.
