Life is a jungle, and the special Lamy Safari pen can take you through it one stroke at a time. Lamy is a world-renowned pen manufacturer headquartered in Germany. Its Safari line features high-quality pens composed of sturdy plastic, steel nibs, and self-sprung chrome metal clips. They have a unique, modern aesthetic, and are well-designed.

This limited-edition Safari fountain pen features a bright, coral finish.

A variety of ink cartridges or a Lamy converter can be used. Installing ink cartridges is easy—simply insert the cartridge into the pen nib section (no need to push completely), then twist the barrel onto the nib section. Attaching the barrel automatically punctures and installs the ink cartridge.

This pen includes one blue Lamy T10 cartridge.

Q: My Lamy fountain came with ink in the nib. Did I receive a used pen?
Lamy dip tests its fountain pens at the factory, and it is not uncommon for new Lamy fountain pens to have some ink residue in the nib. As with all new fountain pens, we recommend giving your new Lamy a good cleaning before you use it. For more info, read How to Clean a Fountain Pen.

The Lamy Safari fountain pen was recommended on several well known sketchers blogs for use in outdoor/urban sketching. It has proven to be excellent as they suggested. One must remember, however, that the extra fin nib on the Lamy pens is wider than an extra fine nib on some other pens. For sketching, this is perfect. I will carry another fountain pen also that has a "finer" extra fine nib so that I have two widths of line making capabilities.

Upon receiving this pen, I thought someone forgot to put it in the box because it was so light. Once out of the box, the color was rather nice, not glaring or obnoxiously neon, but definitely something you could find in the bottom of a black bag. The ink cartridge went in easily and writing was a pleasant surprise. My handwriting is rather small so only EF points are comfortable to use. I tend to keep the cap off while writing but there is a nice balance if you keep the cap on. This is a great everyday pen and I'm pleased with this purchase.

I recently got this pen and I absolutely love it.

It is my first pen by Lamy. The color of the body is stunning. It looks much more brilliant in real life than it does in pictures. The body is plastic but it feels sturdy. My only concern is that it will become scratched up, so I am currently waiting on receiving a pencil case that I ordered to protect all of my writing instruments. Compared to the aesthetics of the Pilot Nibs, I like the aesthetics of the Lamy nib much better. To me, the Lamy nibs have a nicer shape and overall design.

Some people might be bothered by the shape of the pens grip. It is not round like most pens. Half of the grip cylinder is round, but the other half is angled by two flat surfaces where your index and thumb goes. Some people may find this awkward at first as I have seen in some reviews around the internet. For me it was comfortable the moment I held it. I would have to say that this is the most comfortable grip on a fountain pen that I have encountered so far.

It was a little scratchy the first few times I used it. I have only had it a few days, but now it is writing very smoothly. I think that the scratchiness also came from the fact that I tend use a lot of pressure in my strokes. I am only beginning to learn that you only need to write lightly for a fountain pen to be able to lay down its ink. The Lamy Extra Fine nib lays down lines the same size as the Pilot Fine nib. This is not a problem for me though because I was expecting it. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this penI am currently using the Lamy blue ink cartridge that came with the pen--they both work well together. However, I will be buying a different brand of ink to use with this pen so I will still have to see how the new combo will work.

The pen does not feather either, which was a problem that I had with my other fountain pens (for my paper, I am using standard Staples loose leaf paper). I also tested the pen out on Mead Five-Star Notebook paper and it also works well. So for students who want a fancy pen but do not want to have to buy expensive paper to pair with it, I would say that this pen is a safe bet.

Overall, I would recommend this pen. Perhaps my review comes prematurely, but I was so impressed with it that I could not help myself.
