I don't think you can wrong with a Lamy, particularly the Safari. The problems the reviewer below had are rare. I've purchased 5 different Safaris, including the white model - which I love - and had no trouble. The pen is of solid make and design, durable, fun. With some fountain pen experience, I imagine any trouble with the nib could be easily fixed with just a few tweaks. Don't let an overall review score scare you away from this one. It's a fantastic pen.

My mother loves it.

This was purchased for my mother after trying my Safari matte-black pen she wanted one of her own. To say she's not tech savvy would be an understatement (sorry, mom, if you ever read this). She was a big fan of fountain pens "back in the day" but was annoyed by the mess involved with inking them. I showed her the cartridge and how easy it was to replace and that made her like it even more. By the time she was trying mine I already gave up on the blue cartridge it comes with and switched to the blue-black which I bought a pack of. She also happened to really like the blue-black color.

When it came in the next time I visited her I brought it completely unopened and showed her how to add the cartridge (I bought her a pack of the blue-black and that's what she initially used) and it's been working great.

She's gone through a couple of the cartridges now and has had no issues with it. She uses it pretty much daily as her main pen. I don't think she's bothered cleaning it once yet either. I told her it would be good to just run it under some water and let it dry overnight and that's really all the maintenance you need to do. So I guess the biggest pluses for her are it's easy to replace the ink, low maintenance, and it doesn't cost much (of course I bought it for her as a gift but since I showed her the site to choose a color she knows how much they cost). I'm pretty sure it stays at home so no feedback on how well it takes to banging around in a purse.

Love the Safari pens! I've been drooling over the white for quite awhile now; so glad I bought it! I did swap out the F nib for the 1.9 CI nib and its wonderful!!

This is the second fountain pen I have purchased and it left me disappointed. the ink did not flow very well and the nib drags across all paper I've tried. It just doesn't write the way it should! In my experience, the pilot metropolitan is a better, less expensive pen.

The nib slides over the paper smoothly. The pen feels good in the hand, and the ink flows smoothly and doesn't skip.I own several Lamy pens and I think that they are absolutely terrific.

Easy to see if you have enough ink by looking through the window in the body. The clip is great too. I have two other Lamy fountain pens like this style and they hold different color inks. This white one holds Lamy black ink and is good for every day writing. Great ink flow and feels good in my hand.

I really really want to LOVE this pen, but mostly, I just like it.

Pros: The cap sits well both on the nib end and when it is seated on the back of the pen. The balance is great, it's not a heavy pen, and when the cap is on the back end, it doesn't go flying off and gives the pen a great balance with which to write. The white body is a nice clean white and the window for the ink is lovely. The nib is a smooth write, it doesn't take a lot of pressure, and even if the cap is left on for some time (I work at a bank and use this as my main writing utensil, it occasionaly gets left open while I'm running transactions) it doesn't take much effort to get the ink to flow again. The grip on this pen is great! For anyone that hasn't used a fountain before, the grip makes it pretty easy to hold it correctly.

Cons: The nib leaks. It seems that every time I've gotten it mostly clean, I cap the pen, set it down, and come back to more ink on my nib. I'm not sure if it's because of the converter I put in it that forces the ink into the nib more than a cartridge would, but I don't like that I constantly have an inky nib. And because of this, it feels like I'm filling the ink every other day or so, when my other fountain can go for two weeks or more with the same use time. The nib is also a lot broader than I expected it to be. It is certainly broader than my Medium nib from the Pilot Metropolitian.

Even with the cons as stated, I do enjoy writing with this pen. It makes letter writing smooth and enjoyable, it would just be more enjoyable without those cons.

To clarify - I called Lamy - not Jet Pens. I've never had a problem with this seller.

Bad Pen - worse (so called) customer service. This pen never worked as well as expected. I called the company and was told to send them the pen along with a postage and handling fee of $9.50. Yeah - I don't think so. The pen only cost 25 bucks. This is my first and last Lamy. Buy a pack of Pilot Varsities. You get a full set of pens for half the price and they write like a dream. Lamy is a WASTE of MONEY.
