Multi pen includes one 0.5 mm mechanical pencil, one 0.5 mm black ballpoint pen, and one pen style eraser.

Hers Experimental Design Laboratory is a design company in Japan similar to IDEO in the US. Such companies are famous for rethinking and rebuilding common objects in innovative ways. The head designer and president Chiaki Murata envisioned Metaphys as a new stationery concept. Murata-san and Metaphys have extensive design experience and have been involved in projects such as Microsoft Xbox console design, the Hono electric candle and Uzu cyclone vacuum cleaner (both Red Dot Design Award winners). Metaphys continues that creative tradition with its clean and thoughtful stationery line.

The Locus 3Way Multi Pen was created from the designer's perspective and features many unusual characteristics. For example, rather than locating the eraser on the top of the pencil and thus requiring users to interrupt their writing and drawing experience, the Locus is designed with the eraser at the tip. Just twist the body of the pen to reveal an eraser that you can click (also known as “knock”) to extend. Rotating the body again will reveal in turn the eraser, 0.5 mm mechanical pencil, and 0.5 mm black ballpoint pen. The pencil has a very elegant visual design and weight. Different body colors as well as are available.

Since Hers is a design company, these pens can be considered a prototype of their concept. Please take care in using these instruments as JetPens has found that the bodies are susceptible to scratching. Also, please retract writing instruments after used to avoid ink bleeding (ink is difficult to remove from the body once stained).

This pen is awesome!...

This pen is awesome! Even though its a little bit on the pricey side, it's definitely worth it! The design is functional, and it has a really good weight to it when you're writing. My advice for refills would be to buy the Platinum Pen refills. It's the same pen refill for half the cost and with better ink. The ink in the refills that this pen comes with is a little uneven and clumps a lot when you write. Where as the Platinum ones are smoother and write more evenly. Spending 75.00 on this pen is definitely money well spent!

This pen is solidly constructed and very nice multi-pen. I have a bit of an addiction to multi-pens, and this is one of many that I own. The Metaphys Locus 3Way is among my favorites due to the stock cartridges laying nice lines and the overall amazing design. The pen has a comfortable heft to it. I like the feature of having an eraser handy. (I think the eraser is a feature that is unique to this multi-pen only)

Other Thoughts:
I really like the Metaphys Locus 3Way and will be buying a white one soon.

This is my second time buying this since I lost the first one I had. It's a nice all in one pen but it is a bit on the pricey side. If people are looking for an alternative, I'd recommend searching for the Aviator Pen B3, it's made my Skilcraft. They are both very similar in design and function although I like the Locus's curve clip. Overall a good pen, although I do wish it was cheaper.

It seems like a great pencil, but it is overpriced. On Metaphys' website, they list it as ¥5,250 (about 58 dollars). Though it has the convenience of a pencil, pen, and eraser, the price point is just simply too high.

I thought it looked nice in the preview images, but when I received it - woah. My inner architect is having a field day! Gorgeous form and function, the switch mechanism works smoothly as butter, and the metal body feels nice and gives the reassurance that it probably won't break in a fall. The only setbacks are that there isn't a set "closed" setting - the tips retract in between the various tools, and it *might* accidentally pop out if you nudge the pen. The matte paint job also seems like it would scratch easily (as noted in the description), and of course the pen's weighty price point. Regardless, I love it.
