When I first saw pictures...

When I first saw pictures of this pen, I was not overly enthused with the plastic look of it but I did like the idea of the pen being see-through, so I ordered it. And when I did receive the pen, I was pleasantly surprised by its looks, which appeared to be quite solid and eye catching. There are some nice classical curves with gives the pen a somewhat refined look. As for the ink inverter sitting inside of it, well, it’s quite cool. As for the twist cap, it is made of plastic but it does not feel like it’s going to strip away anytime soon.

Nevertheless, it is the iridium point on this pen that makes it what it is. With a constant, unperturbed flow of ink, it is any writers dream to write with this pen.

I was not expecting this...

I was not expecting this pen to be as nice as it was when I decided to give it a try. I'm drawn to the "Demonstrator" style of pens because I like the idea of showing off some of the colored inks I have. The Artista Crystal looked nice in the pics and videos, with good reviews, so for the price I thought it might be the perfect "Demonstrator" pen to take for a test ride. I was not disappointing. My joy started with the nice box Monteverde supplies their pens inside of. The pen also came with one pre-filled cartridge (Black), and one converter cartridge already installed in the pen. I've learned to inspect the nib before doing anything else, and did find the tines out of alignment. Not much, but even a slight misalignment means the difference between a nice writing experience and a very disappointing experience. Once I was happy with alignment, the medium nib looked good (Clean, even spacing of the feed groove, etc). The next surprising thing was the heft of the pen. I was assuming it would be rather light, but it was not. I like a heftier feel, and this pen had a comfortable weight to it. It's now filled with Noodler's Fox (red), and looks awesome! It fits comfortable in my hand and seems well balanced fully inked up and cap posted. The writing experience was enjoyable. The nib wrote smoothly, with the wet flow I would expect from a medium nib. I liked this pen so well, that I've already purchased a second one, and have it filled with De Atramentis Violet (purple) ink. By the way, the nib on that pen was slightly out of alignment as well. I recommend this pen for anyone who wants a good "Demonstrator" for a good price!

Got this as a demonstrator...

Got this as a demonstrator to fill with the Diamine Orange ink. It looks really good, especially when the orange ink fills the feed to give it an orange color. One thing that's not so great is that when left for a few days, it's really hard to get it started again. Otherwise a well-built pen.

I love this pen! It is strikingly beautiful, has a great weight to it and the cartridge is perfect for drawing from your favorite bottle of ink. I like always being able to see how much ink I have in the chamber.

I do find the nib to be a bit scratchy at times. you have to regularly turn the ink cartridge down to avoid air bubbles, or at least thats how I feel, in order to maintain consistent ink flow.

This was my first higher end pen purchase and I am very happy. This pen writes incredibly smoothly and is easy to refill. I love the simplicity of it and how you can see the color of ink inside. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good fountain pen

Superb writer. Fits well into hand and allows the writer to put down a smooth line with little effort. Looks good, too!
I didn't like this pen...

I didn't like this pen very much. Every single part, the nib, the grip, the plastic body, the converter and cap just felt and looked much cheapter than Lamy Safari demonstrator which costed me nearly half as much. It didn't write smooth and was skipping all over the plan. Maybe I got a bad batch because people generally rate this pen as a good, smooth writer that is also aesthetically pleasing. I tried flushing, different cartriges and converters and just couldn't get this to write properly. :(
