I bought this case specifically to take to geology field camp with me, since
it's rugged and holds a s**t-ton of pencils. We needed our colored pencils for
mapping out in the desert, and this does not let me down. I have at least 24
pencils in it, some Sakura fineliners of various widths, erasers, pencil
sharpener, glue stick, highlighter, one of those convertible pairs of scissors
that looks like a pen, and a tiny 6" ruler. It lived through 2 weeks in Bishop,
CA, a week in Yerington, NV, 4 weeks in central Oregon, a week in Yellowstone,
and two weeks in France and Spain. I now take it into the field with me when I
work, and people always comment on the amount of stuff I pull out of it (almost
comically, like it's the pencil case version of a clown car).
If you need a pencil case that will withstand abuse, take it from a geologist
who goes into the field regularly - this is the soft-sided case you want.
