Noodler's inks are known for their affordability, wide range of colors, and good performance on more absorbent papers that are not normally fountain pen friendly. They are also known for their distinctive label art, featuring unique drawings that often reflect their creator's strongly held political and economic ideals. Dedicated to keeping prices as low as possible, Noodler's uses simple bottles and packaging, with boxes made of recycled paper. All Noodler's inks are 100% made in the USA.

This ink is part of Noodler's Baystate series of intensely vivid inks, inspired by a 1940s recreation of inks used in colonial Boston.

Special Properties:

  • Water Resistant: This ink resists the effects of water. It may still smear, discolor, or run slightly if exposed to water, but anything written with it will remain legible.
  • Forgery Resistant: This ink is resistant to lasers, alcohols, and solvents used by forgers and check-washers.

  • This ink has a higher pH than other inks. Noodler's Baystate inks have a unique formulation and should not be mixed with any inks except other Baystate inks. Clean your pen thoroughly before and after using this ink, as any traces will react with other inks and potentially clog the pen. We do not recommend using these inks in vintage pens or in very valuable pens.
  • This ink can stain plastic and other hard surfaces it comes in contact with. These stains can usually be removed by cleaning with a 10:1 solution of water and bleach.
  • This ink may come in either a glass or plastic bottle and vary from the bottle pictured.
  • Glass Noodler's ink bottles are filled to the brim with ink. If you receive this ink in a glass bottle, be careful when opening it to avoid spilling.
  • See this chart for a list of Noodler's inks and their special properties.

Noodler's Baystate Blue...

Noodler's Baystate Blue really is an incredible color -- possibly the brightest, most intense blue writing ink I've ever seen. That said, it leaves a MEAN stain on everything it touches except glass: everything from plastic pen parts to your fingertips to the sink you cleaned your pen in. A good scrubbing with Comet and steel wool took care of the sink, and took most of the ink off my fingers as well, but I can't imagine it would do much for the pen!

I heartily recommend this ink for its beautiful color, but be very careful what pen you put it in. The Platinum Preppy, fitted with an o-ring (as seen in JetPens Penpedia!), is ideal for Baystate Blue.

Having read all the scary warnings (not just the other review here) about mixing this ink or having this ink damage plastics, I kept this ink in my Pilot Varsity. Which I use every single day! It's so great when writing on printed documents to see my comments POP with the vibrant color. This is the only blue I like to use. Never boring!

This is a very vivid blue. It is so deep that at first glance it nearly looks purple.

DO NOT MIX THIS COLOR WITH ANY OTHER INKS. It creates some sort of death ink. This ink also stains anything plastic it touches. Be careful what you put this in. I've put it in my platinum preppies but I'm not going to put it in any of my good fountain pens.

This is a very nice shade the really jumps off the page, but that does come with some risks.

Brilliant color blue for my Molotow Aqua Squeeze pen. It also works nicely in my refillable paint brush.
