I bought my first Ohto...,
April 24, 2008
I bought my first Ohto pen during a trip to Tokyo in 1992 and didn't realy give
much thought to refills.
Imagine my despair when I discovered that my favourite pen wouldn't accept
normal refills, due the unusual size of the barrel.
Fast forward to 2006 and I'm in Tokyo again.
With my pen in my hand, I returned to the hotellobby shop where I'd bought it,
determined to clean out their stock of refills - nope, they don't stock them any
more.
The whole 3 days of my visit were spent with one eye frantically scanning for
shops that sell pens, but the few that I found couldn't help.
On my return home, I discovered the website for Jetpens and promptly kicked
myself, as I'd been in San Francisco as part of my trip (SF -_ New Zealand -_
Tokyo) and had been within striking distance of my precious refills.
Jetpens duly recieved an order for refils and I spent the next year enjoying my
lovely pen again.
Earlier this year, a work colleague expressed his deire for a pen like mine, so
I bought him one when I ordered some more refills and he is now as mad about
Ohto pens as I am.
I'm currently working out how much I can charge him for refills :-)

fantastic pen, nice weight, good size and writes very nicely.. unlike some

This is quite possibly the best pen I've written with. When I see interesting
pens, I usually buy one just to place it in my writeability list. I have a very
fluid writing style halfway between 'elegant' and 'unreadable,' so I'm always
looking for that one smooth, dynamic, heavy ink pen. Too thin a line, too
scratchy, or too much bleed, and the charm goes away.
This guy is perfect. It looks great, and it's light but with enough weight that
when I'm swinging it around (as much as one does when writing as I do) it swings
with me. Like I'm not going to lose my rhythm because I put a letter down too
quickly. The ink is dark, solid, and a good thick line. A man's line. A line to
be proud of. The ceramic ball is new to me, but I could tell the difference as
soon as I started writing. It doesn't matter if I'm scribbling furiously or
lightly taking notes - the line's the same.
The only problem I've run into is that the cap doesn't sit as well when you're
writing. I've taken to just leaving it off, but the main body of the pen is kind
of short. Not so short that it's unusable, but because of the tapered end, it
feels like it's going to slip into my palm. It won't; I'll get used to it - it's
just something I've noticed.

Ohto Orca Ceramic Roller Ball Pen - 0.5 mm - Black Cap
Super nice pen! Love the feel of it, and it writes fantastic. It looks like a
$100.00 pen, and writes just as well as the higher end pens. Recommended highly.

Ohto Orca Ceramic Roller Ball Pen - 0.5 mm - Blue Cap
This is a very nice pen that writes extremely smooth, sometimes maybe too
smooth. I do have a slight issue with the cap as it sometimes come loose when I
twirl the pen in my hand (nervous tick). One of my favorite pens still.

Ohto Orca Ceramic Roller Ball Pen - 0.5 mm - Black Cap
I really enjoy almost everything about this pen. It feels very high quality from
the weight to the solid construction to the flow of writing with it. It writes
very smooth and fluidly and also kind of snappy. It's easy to control. The only
thing I am not crazy about is the grip. I prefer the rubber grip of some of my
other pens like the Signo 207. That being said, it might just be personal
preference that I like rubber grips and after writing a page or so with the Orca
I did start to get used to it.
Overall, a very good quality pen. I'm quite happy with it.

Ohto Orca Ceramic Roller Ball Pen - 0.5 mm - Black Cap
Oh man...this pen is gorgeous. The moment you open that box, and pull this baby
out, you know you made a good choice. This is top notch. The finish is
impeccable, and so far, has withstood amazingly well in my backpack of art
things, as I am a traveling artist. Holding this beauty in you hands is a
privelege. The smooth as silk finish grips surprisingly well when opening it,
and when your writing is done, and you put that back on, you feel a sadness, as
if the pen were crying for you to write more. It can even be used for drawing,
though not to GREAT effect, just as, you know, something to whip out and
scribble with. Ink flow is a teensy bit too fast for me, so I don't get that
fine line I love. But hey! Everything has a defect, and if that is it, then, by
golly, I'll take it. A must own for anyone who is a stationery monster like me.
Good for being your 'executive pen'.

The pen is a pleasure to hold. It looks beautiful and is well balanced. The only
set back is that the ink does not run as smooth and skips which surprised me, I
had few OHTO refills (from Japan) and none had any problems with it, but three
refills I got recently had more or less this issue with skipping. Get a decent
refill and the pen is ideal.

I am particular pens. I spent soooo long looking for the perfect one.
Unfortunately, I am a heavy-handed writer so I couldn't find one that was just
right...until this one! Even though there isn't a grip on this pen, the width
makes writing comfortable. The blue on the cap is really beautiful and the
aluminum doesn't scratch at all! I also love the pull that the ceramic roller
ball gives when writing. Usually, because of how heavy-handed I am, my hands
start to hurt quickly, but not with this one! I absolutely love this pen and
I'll definitely keep on buying refills for it!

Nice fine line for ledger entry. Very smooth finish is comfortable and easy to
retrieve from pocket or briefcase. Appearance is stylish and understated yet it

I love this pen, BUT....the cap does not stay on while writing! It flies off
when I write, and I'm afraid of losing it, so I tend not to take it out for
quick notes. This would be my favorite pen, were it not for this
design/funtionality issue.

Ohto Orca Ceramic Roller Ball Pen - 0.5 mm - Gray Cap
I really wanted to like this pen. It does write like a dream, truly. But that's
not enough to forgive it's faults: The weight is horrible and light and the
slick surface of the pen body makes it impossible to keep the cap on. It's
simply not comfortable in the hand, again the slick body just makes it hard to
keep a good grip on it.
