The Pentel Stein Enhanced Silica Pencil Lead features a reinforced silica core that makes the Stein Pentel's smoothest, strongest, sharpest pencil lead yet! The lead is also designed to be smear resistant, allowing you to have beautiful, clear writing and smudge free hands (great for left-handed people).

Well I don't agree with the whole "smear resistant" deal, I'm an artist primarily and this lead seams to smear just as much as any though it does smear "lighter" in terms of color. Regardless I still swear by this lead its become the only lead brand I use now, highly recommended.

Just got this lead a few weeks ago and am using it in my GraphGear 1000. It is by far the best lead I've ever used. I'm not sure how much more "black" it is than HB, but it certainly works for me. Never has it broken, never has it torn my paper, and it always writes very smoothly.
I've been using other lead, lower grade Pentel, Hi-Uni, High grade Pilot stuff, and none of them can compare to, let alone beat this Stein lead in writing quality. Best lead I've ever used. Get it.

Haven't had the chance to try this lead yet as I am still trying to finish the Rotring lead that came with my Rotring pencil, but I've only heard great things about this lead.

I use my Uni Kuru Toga Roulette pencils for notes and homework and I also use 2B,B, & HB lead for diagrams and writing, but for all general purpose I have found that this Stein B is not only smooth it is also easily erasable and does not break easily. I have the Uni Kuru Toga lead and it may be a bit more break resistant this is just as good and cheaper. Also compared to other lead dispensers the cap does not come completely off so you cant loose it and it fits in small pencil case mesh pockets perfectly.
