STEIN stands for "Strongest Technology by Enhanced SiO2 Integrated Network". Each container contains 40 pieces of lead.

The Pentel Stein Enhanced Silica Pencil Lead features a reinforced silica core that makes the Stein Pentel's smoothest, strongest, sharpest pencil lead yet! The lead is also designed to be smear resistant, allowing you to have beautiful, clear writing and smudge free hands (great for left-handed people).

I got used to these leads...

I got used to these leads and then went for Mars for a change. Yes it was smooth but why did it wear down all slanted like that, why did it make crumbs? When you use a really excellent product you might not notice why it´s so good because you concentrate on your work not your tool, but the difference becomes clear when you try something else. When you get to Ain Stein, stop trying something else. It´s like with PG1000, or Boxy, or Tombow Mono 100, or Caran d´Ache Fixpencil, or Uni 2mm lead: don´t go any further, you´re already there. It´s time to stop buying different tools and to start actually doing something with what you have.

This was my first package...

This was my first package of ain stein leads, and they're great, better than normal pentel hi polymer leads. Their smear resistance is slightly better than Uni nano dia leads in HB; it seems to be a bit smoother than normal HB but nothing significantly different. Overall, HB Soft is nice and I would recommend it again, but not spectacular due to how similar it is to other HB grades.
