This pen does write very...
This pen does write very smooth and leaves a crisp color, but so does my Uniball Signo. The biggest drawback with this pen is that it is NOT water resistant in the least. That means if I spill something or get caught out in the rain, my notes smear well into the next page and there goes my nice crisp color. I want a pen that I am comfortable writing checks with and signing legal documents as well as taking notes and doodling. So I'll stick with my Signo.

My favorite gel pen of...
My favorite gel pen of all time. Pilot must have changed the ink formulation, because as of December 2013, when I bought the latest one, it is completely waterproof.

This pen, as cheap and...
This pen, as cheap and simple as it is, beats out dozens of other pens that are up to 3 times as expensive. I'm serious. This pen has a functional grip that, while not squisy, is comfortable and non-slip. the clip works well for shirt pockets, etc. I like the feel of the clicking mechanism. Finally, to the writing. This pen is the smoothest pen out of all the liquid and gel pens I have, and this pen writes the darkest and most crisp. I love the writing quality. It puts my G2s and miffy and signos and vision elites all to shame. The Energel X is smooth, has never skipped on me, always creates a nice vivid black line from first touch, and creates sharp lines.
There is only one downfall, and even that is circumstantial. I have heard that this pen does not have waterproof ink, which means that if you are doing labs in a science course, the ink may smudge and ruin a page of your lab notebook, in the case that water or some other liquid spills.
Overall, considering price and writing quality, this is a great deal, and you should NOT hesitate to add both this and the blue version to your cart.

A wonderfully cheap and basic pen.
These things are my it pen. Bold dark lines, nice grip, stands out on notes and post its. Feels good and writes good. Got one here to try it out and loved it. Bought a 5 pack at a store around here on the cheap as well. Because of the price, and because I don't have to order online if I need more, I carry these around daily. I like them enough to use, but they are replaceable enough to actually let someone else borrow it. Really nice pens that I won't lose sleep over losing.

A basic black gel pen....
A basic black gel pen. The ink takes a little longer to dry than I had hoped, especially sometimes a little extra come out, but mostly the line is dry within 3-4 seconds. I guess considering this is a .7 line, that's actually pretty good. There's also a perceptible seam, but considering the price, this is quite a good pen.
