I first bought these mechanical pencils back in the early 90s when I was in college for doing mathematics and engineering homework. The Pentel Graph PG500 series pencil is an older model that holds up and performs well as I can attest to. The last one I had lasted for almost 20 years but was recently lost. Very glad to see they are still available.

This is a great pencil which does not get it's due

I use it for drawing. It's got a lead grade indicator on the side, color coded lead thickness indicator on the back. Great. It's plastic and light weight, but feels solid and well made. It feels like a tool for doing work.

You can remove the clip, which I like (I keep mine in a pencil bag, so I don't need a clip).

The thing that some people seem to dislike about it is the grip. If you are looking for a pencil with a really rough knurled grip, this isn't it. The grip is smooth metal with grooves which provide good traction without being uncomfortable or distracting. With some rougher pencils, I feel like I am holding a metal rasp. I guess some people like that.

I am going to get the .5 and the .3.
