Personally, this lead suits me perfectly. It has never broken on me except for when I've accidentally dropped the pencil and it landed at an awkward angle. I'm a little heavy handed when it comes to drawing but it's still held up strong for me as long as the lead isn't way too far out.

While it claims that it doesn't smudge, it does, but far, far less than any other lead I've ever used does. Normally I'm covered in graphite, but this lead reduces it by at least 90%, making my paper much cleaner when I draw.

You get 15 leads per tube which is 3 more than you'll get with other leads from Pentel.

Also, the case these come in is perfect. You twist the cap, not pop it open, making accidentally spilling and losing all of your lead much harder to do. As I wrote this, I popped open a case of the o.7mm leads to compare them to this lead, and they spilled everywhere.

I love this entire line of leads. They rarely break, and I think I have only broken them when banging the pencil against something, not in actual usage. I really like that the top twists open instead of detaching from the container because I can't lose it; also, you won't spill all your leads when pulling off the cap. The Ain Stein leads all seem to mark lighter than the regular Pentel leads in the ugly parallelogram containers, so if you are mixing different hardnesses of them in a drawing you may have to do some test marks to get the darkness you really want. These are a little expensive, but I am picky about what I draw with and I choose these consistently.

I have tried many different 0.3 leads, and by far this one is the BEST. Of course it will break because its so fine, but it break way less than any other brand I have tried. As an artist though, the selling point was that it does not smear nearly as much as other brands, nowhere close.

It took me any number of tries to get the container open. I was about to cut off the top when I discovered it was a twist type of top. Very clever - once you figure out how to open it.

I think this lead lacks smoothness. I started writing with this lead in HB then switched to Hi-uni in H and the latter was so much nicer and smoother to write with, even though it was H. It even showed in the quality of my handwriting: much softer letters.
Im giving Pentel a chance though: if its true that it doesnt smudge - thats why I bought it in the first place - then Ill just buy Pentel in softer grades and use it when Im drawing because there non-smudginess is important.
