You can feel this lead wearing out as you use it, which is something people who appreciate natural graphite will love about this lead. It has this natural feel and texture of graphite with no synthetic additions, yet it smudges very little (but hey, is there any pencil that doesn't), I mean, next to none. Has the best qualities of graphite lead and best ones of the synthetic ones (little smudging). Recommend definitely!

This lead, combined with the Kuru Toga pencil, lays down a dark, crisp line reminiscent of a good roller-ball Pen. I think I'm in love!

Pentel Ain Stein is my graphite of choice. Whether it's 2B or HB or H, I tend to stick with Ain Stein whenever possible. There are graphites that write darker. There may be graphites that may be stronger. There may be graphites that are smooth. That said, I have not used a graphite that balances all of these attributes with a very low smudge factor too boot. Highly recommended.

Awesome choice for smooth writing! I recently purchased Pentel Stein Enhanced Silica Pencil Lead for the first time, after reading some great reviews. I was not disappointed, to say the least! The writing flow is extremely smooth, and the 2B is nice and dark, which is great, especially since I wanted to use .7 mm instead of .5 mm. Most other .7 mm lead I have used in the past are rather faint, and are frustrating to continuously use. I highly recommend this lead. I paired it with the Zebra m-701 pencil, and now I've got a great set-up for pencil writing. Check it out!
