I love the EnerGel pens....,
March 14, 2010
I love the EnerGel pens. The Tradio was a little bit disappointing for two
reasons:
(1) The grip is solid plastic (it looks like the very nice rubber grip from the
disposable capped EnerGel pens, but it isn't, it's solid plastic).
(2) The cap snaps in place to close the pen, but when open it just slides over
the end of the pen without snapping, and it works itself loose within a minute
or two no matter how hard I slide it on.
I expected a lot more from the EnerGel series that I like so much.

We learned that the spring in the body CAN be removed by hitting the body
lightly against your hand until the spring falls out, thereby allowing you to
use the standard Tradio refill.

Pentel Tradio EnerGel Combo Gel Ink Pen - Nature Matte Body - 0.7 mm - Brown Body - Black Ink
Don't know how to edit my previous review.
I finally got the pen back to writing. I did the lighter under the pen tip
trick. I just used a lighter to quickly warm the tip and squiggled on some
paper. Warmed it a couple times for less than a sec. Finally works now! Good
thing didn't wanna toss a damn pricey pen for me.

Pentel Tradio EnerGel Combo Gel Ink Pen - Nature Matte Body - 0.7 mm - Brown Body - Black Ink
I had previously bought the Green version for a friend. I have recently just got
the brown version. We must have done something wrong since the ink failed fairly
fast on us both. I just chalked it up to how he writes and leaving it out in
the sun.
Within 2 days of fairly light use you can barely get any ink out. Poor quality
control with the refill or something. Someone reviewing the blue version had the
same issue. Nice body and style but that doesn't mean a darn thing if it doesn't
write.

appearance of pen - looks like a more expensive pen and feels good in the hand.
the outer body does not feel 'rubbery' at all but does have a slight texture to
it. it is not perfectly smooth as glass or metal would perhaps feel.
the one nit-pick that I have with this pen, is there is a clear plastic ring
that separates the two 'halves' of the main pen body. IMO this clear plastic
ring is very cheap-looking. I would have been more impressed with the
appearance of the pen had it used a black or 'chrome' looking part instead. the
clear plastic ring is just above the 'chrome' looking part in the photos.

I had really good luck with the brown Tradio, so I was looking forward to the
blue. Unfortunately, things didn't turn out so well. Within a week of having the
pen, I am already seeing a lot of the shiny blue layer peeling away. For a pen
that's supposed to last through several refills, this is an utter
disappointment.
Unlike the other reviewer, I've had good luck with the ink and couldn't be
happier with the way it writes. It would definitely be a plus to be able to get
refills on JetPens as well.

Being a huge fan of the EnerGel ink, I wanted a refillable pen option. This pen
is very lightweight which isn't bad but I do prefer a weightier feel. The thing
is, the body has such a nice shape I can't help but keep coming back to it...
However, I'd like to show a comparison of this to the disposable needle point
EnerGel pens:
Tradio Combo:
matte finish
light weight
smooth plastic grip
plastic clip
Disposable:
shiny finish
solid feel (may or may not actually be heavier)
RUBBER grip (much more comfortable)
metal clip
For a $1.50 disposable pen, it's only .25 more than the tradio combo refill and
extremely comfortable. And yet, I still constantly use the tradio - the shape of
the body is a real pleasure so take that as you will.
I guess I expected more from an $8.50 pen, particularly since it has blemishes
such as the spotty dye job inside the pen cap (outside looks great though) and
the hole or puncture on the bottom of the pen.
With all that said, I don't regret the purchase and will probably continue to
refill it.
I wish there were a metal version of this pen with a rubber grip - it would be
AMAZING.

This is the worst pen I've ever used. Maybe mine was a lemon because the ink
cartridge dried up on me. I tried to get it working again with a little alcohol
applied to the tip but the ink would not come out. I also don't like how the
grip is just a flimsy plastic. The refills aren't here on JetPens yet so I tried
to mod some other refills for it and none fit! Not even other Pentel refills fit
this pen. It looked really nice so I thought I'd give it a chance, but the
Tradio EnerGel pen is not for me.
