It is a great pen! Pretty, gold and elegant. I even bought another, I read what others said about saving the money and going with light, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. After all that one also has a clear plastic clip as well as see through caps (I am judging by the picture as I couldn't bring myself to order one after seeing how primped and polished this one is. Metal clip and self colored cap just sold me. I am not however planning to use the eraser at all so I won't be losing my cap either. (separate erasers are so much easier in school for me.) Student in college and I love my new Dr. Grip and Jetpens!

  I was really excited..., March 22, 2013
This review is from Pilot Dr. Grip 4+1 4 Color 0.7 mm Ballpoint Multi Pen + 0.5 mm Pencil - Series I - White Body
I was really excited to get this pen/pencil, as I am a nursing student and wanted a high-quality refillable multi-pen to take with me to clinicals. I must say that I absolutely love it. However, this was my first-ever Dr. Grip pen and I was very disappointed with the grip - which is what Dr. Grip is famous for. It is very hard and doesn't feel squishy at all. It hardly even feels like there is a grip on it, actually. I decided to give Dr. Grip another chance and ordered the Pure White (with the cute pink accents) and I must say that the grip on that pencil is much softer. That being said, don't order this if you are expecting a nice soft grip. It's really firm, but it still is somehow ergonomic. I love it, and it works perfectly for the purpose that I ordered it for. I also played with it for literally fifteen minutes before I gave up and looked up how to extend the lead in the pencil function (you push the clip down even farther than you may think you should).

Pros:
Very elegant design
Attractive coloring with a great pearly tint
Many color options that range from professional to fun and cute, for both sexes
Writes very well with clean thin lines and no globs
High quality construction
Does not jam like many multi-pens
Many types of ink refills will fit (great if you are a fan of gel or other types of inks)
Does not skip with high-speed writing
Eraser cap fits firmly and eraser refills are very fairly priced
Everyone wants to know where I got it :)

Cons:
Grip is not even a little bit soft
Learning to operate the pencil and extend the lead can be a task
Refilling can be a little bit tricky
Everyone keeps asking me if they can have it :(

This review is from Pilot Dr. Grip 4+1 4 Color 0.7 mm Ballpoint Multi Pen + 0.5 mm Pencil - Series II - Bordeaux Body
I love this pen... for its body. I'm something of a multipen aficionado (Jetstream, Surari, Acroball, I've got 'em all, and usually multiples) and I absolutely adore the body on the Dr. Grip 4+1. It's really nicely weighted, the grip provides just the right amount of cushion, and it looks really classy. Unfortunately, the ink is pretty awful. All four colors are prone to white streaks, and the black and blue in particular are just average crappy ballpoint ink. If only the ink were as good as the regular Dr. Grip ink, it would be stellar. (I have, however, solved that particular problem by using the Acroball multi-pen refills, which fit perfectly! My beloved hybrid ink + classy body = win. Now I just need a green Acroball refill...)

I have all of the pens in the two series, and this one is by far the most "fun" one of the bunch for me (followed by the lime green). A completely versatile pen that never leaves you fumbling for another color ink in an edit or technical drawing with a pencil to boot. This one does show that it's more plastic than some of the others, but to be expected from the photo. Unique: I have yet to have this one swiped from me at work.

The workmanship is superb for multi-pen, attracts attention every single time. However, the red ink does not seem to function well. I bought 2 f these pens and neither one of them has functioning red color...what a bummer. What a disappointemt for a pen I waited patiently to arrive in the mail

I purchased this pen and it is my new favorite. The color stands out and the grip is easy to hold. I changed the refills with the Pentel sliccies 0.3mm to make it super fine!! I keep my eye on this pen and never let it out my sight. I will purchase another one as a back up... just in case.

I just purchased this pen and immediately switched out the ink for Uni Style Fit gel cartridges (which fit perfectly) and I adore this pen. The ballpoint pens write nicely, I just prefer the gel ink. This is a wonderful pen, the weight is nice, it's very professional and the grip forces you to hold the pen correctly, which for me leads to better handwriting. I recommend it highly, with or without the pen hack!!

I must say I'm glad I got this gorgeous pen. Pearl white, sophisticated and polished. I considered getting the light as this is my second 4+1, but I wanted the polished look this offers... no see through plastic cap nor plastic clip. Of course if you don't mind that the light is half the price and others have said just as good. I must say I like this pen and am very happy with this purchase! (I also don't use the eraser so I will never lose the top) I switched one of my inks with the Pentel Energel 2 0.5 liquid gel pen refill and couldn't be happier with the lines it produces. I am trying to see if there's a Hi tech I can use.

This review is from Pilot Dr. Grip 4+1 4 Color 0.7 mm Ballpoint Multi Pen + 0.5 mm Pencil - Series II - Pink Body
The pen itself is superb--the way it writes, the ink color and smoothness, the color and durability of the barrel. It took me a little while to get the trick of taking care not to jam it, but that rarely happens now.

The reason I gave it a 4 is that the eraser barrel is made of a delicate plastic. Unfortunately, mine broke off, so I no longer have an eraser.

Still, it's a great instrument. The refills are a tiny bit tricky to get on.

I've had this pen for about 4 yrs if not more. I LOVE it, it's perfect for note taking. I have bought this same line in different colors as gifts and the feedback and smiles it brings just amazing. Will be buying more for future personal use. Thank you Jetpens, your pens and pencils are awesome.

BTW, I've been asked if you offer this pen with a .7 mm lead for the pencil? Also I would personally love to have this pen with all .5 mm lead/refills, is that possible? Do you have .5mm pen refills that would fit this pen? Thank you again

Another fun pen (along with the orange). Unique and sophisticated. I love the Dr. Grip 4+1 series. The 0.7 mm ballpoint is perfect and I have yet to have any problem caused by smearing or smudging. If anything, you'll have a problem when you discover you ran out of ink!

By far my favorite color of either the first or second series. This matte black version is a home run in the Pilot Dr. Grip 4+1 pens. It's well balanced and feels spectacular. The matte finish makes this one of the best looking versions of this model. You'll feel like you got a pen worth at least twice the price. The versatility is second to none in any field where you have to make notations or edits. Note: buy plenty of extra ink refills in the colors you think you'll use the most.

I love this entire series of multi-pens, which I became acquainted with while living in Tokyo. This blue is a classic and fits in any professional setting. I have a hard time keeping colleagues from snatching them away. Be sure to buy several ink refills, as you'll go through blue and black quickly. For my work, it's exceptionally handy to be able to switch colors to make notes and edits on work. A wonderful writing utensil that is comfortable and well balanced. A great deal for the price.

Pilot Dr. Grip 4+1 is a good value for the money. It compares favorably with Coleto Hi TEC-C, the Zebra Clip-On Multi, and the Uni Style-Fit Meister. I appreciate the ability its compatibility with the refills from its other competitors. All the mechanisms are well-engineered and stand up to daily use. The finish is durable; the look under-stated. If you are partial to regualr ball pen refills in a multi-pen, Dr. Grip is worth trying.

The Dr. Grip 4+1 is fantastic! I have been looking for a good and classy multicolor fine point pen with a fine point pencil for a long time. This pen/pencil looks great and works great. After the first 2 arrived I ordered 4 more to give as gifts. It would be nice if the instructions were in English so I would know for sure how to change the refills. I pulled really hard and the refill finally came out, but was afraid I might break the pen.

This pen is AWESOME!

It doesn't have as squishy a grip as the original Dr. Grips, but turns out that squishy doesn't equal better for your hands (arthritics, RSI's, carpal tunnelers). But larger grip size, is, because it means your hands/tendons don't have to cramp down as much. And in that regard, this style Dr. Grip still has a large and comfortable barrel. I use it to write several hand-written sheets a week, and it's still great.

The black and the white (pearly) look classiest, in my opinion.

Also, the Sliccies multi-pen refills also fit in these. You just have to remove the little plastic plug at the end. I like them as they are .3mm, and thick enough to be seen, but thin enough to conserve on the ink usage.

I LOVE THIS PEN!!!

This review is from Pilot Dr. Grip 4+1 4 Color 0.7 mm Ballpoint Multi Pen + 0.5 mm Pencil - Series I - Black Body
I bought this multi-pen over at a Kinokuniya bookstore in NYC. From the moment I saw it, I knew it would have its usefulness for studying, as it has all of the basic ballpoint pen colors, PLUS, a PENCIL! When I'm studying or taking notes, I prefer to write with pencil for most things and write in pen for important things such as theorems or formulas. This is really great for a college student because instead of wasting precious lecture time by switching pens, you can do it on the fly. My only complaint about this multi-pen is that the grip isn't that great, and with the Dr. Grip series, you kind of expect that. However, the pen is already thick, so placing a nicer grip probably would have made it even thicker. As far as construction goes, this is a pretty sturdy pen, and doesn't creak even though it is made completely out of plastic.
