This is a pack of 3 FriXion Ball Clicker US erasable gel ink pens. Each pen is retractable, with the clear clip serving as the clicker for extending and retracting the tip. The top end of the pen has a rubber "eraser" colored to match the body and ink color. This pen is the US counterpart to our FriXion Ball Knock Retractable Gel Ink Pen, which is the Japanese import version and differs in body style.

FriXion ink is a thermosensitive ink that can be erased by rubbing. To erase, use the special rubber “eraser” tip at the top of the pen and watch the ink cleanly disappear.

Interestingly, erased ink reappears at temperatures below 14° F (-10° C). A freezer is cold enough to make this happen. It is like magic ink for adults! Due to the thermosensitive nature of FriXion ink, we advise against using it for mailings, or leaving the written materials in hot cars or in environments that expose them to a lot of friction.

Q: My Pilot FriXion pen is not writing well. It seems to be dried out or writing with clear ink. What should I do?
The FriXion ink formula is thermo-sensitive, which causes it to become invisible when heat from friction is applied. If the pen has been exposed to warm temperatures or direct sunlight, this may have caused the ink inside the pen to be "erased." Please try to store the pens in your freezer overnight, then remove them for an hour or two prior to writing to allow them to come back to room temperature. This can usually reactivate the coloring in the ink and allow the pens to write as normal.

It really pains me to write this review. I love Pilot products, and it was so nice to be able to erase and rewrite my notes, in pen. However, I'm absentminded and left my notebook in the car, it got hot outside, and my notes disappeared. I was able to put the notebook in the freezer and get most of the notes back, but if you think you might leave whatever you're writing in a hot place, I recommend choosing a different Pilot pen.
