Great pen. Higher visibility than I expected, but definitely less than a gel ink or ballpoint would produce. This is a great note-taking pen with no smearing upon erasure that provides a much better set of notes than a pencil ever could. I use this pen for about 5-7 hours at a time with only the occasional ink thinning and have never had a problem described by the other user about "scratching."

Depending on your writing style, this size (0.5mm) or type of ink (water-colorish) might make this pen difficult for you. The scratching requires you to let up on the amount of pressure you put on the pen given the ink is not as a thick as a regular gel pen. Maybe grab a 0.7mm if you have this problem.

Also, if you have a slanted handwriting style like I do (being left handed), the ink doesn't flow as well creating a much lighter line than if you held the pen perpendicular to the paper. I've adjusted my own writing style to work with this pen since I haven't found a better pen for note-taking.

I have no idea what other reviewers are talking about. I use this pen 24/7 in college and I love it! Ended up buying loads of refills also.

I love this pen! Writes very well, has little to no smear, and erases beautifully. Comes in handy when I need to handwrite essays for some classes. I use it all the time. The placement of the clip as the trigger for retracting the pen tip is perfect and practical.

This pens ink color is good and the erasability is fine. However the pen did not write smoothly. It is VERY sharp and makes an indent on the paper so even if you erase you can see what you had written. Also when writing with this pen I sound like Michel J Fox. The clip at the top is the mechanism that retracts the ink tip and when it is in use it rattles loudly. If I actually liked this pen I suppose I would make do by using a hair tie to hold the clip in place. I would not recommend this pen to anyone.

This pen comes in a dark navy blue color. The grip is just a thin layer of silicon, not to be confused as a soft grip. The clip which operated the push mechanism in the pen does fell a little unstable; the clip jiggles as if it may come off. The ink is just a little light for a blue black, but it does erase well. One of the only negative things that I noticed about this pen, is that when I had to erase a large area when I was writing chinese characters on flash cards; the frixion rubber started to wear down on the back, but just a little. This worried me that the rubber might not hold out for a very long time. But overall this is one of the best erasable pens on the market.

I've been waiting for retractable FriXions ever since the 0.7mm FriXion gel pens came out! I love these, the colors are beautiful, and I love that they retract with the clip, so that they don't keep retracting while you erase!

I own just about every Pilot Frixion product ever made. When it comes to the Ball Knock Retractable Gel Pens, I have the entire set in the 0.7mm. Decided to buy this one to give the 0.5mm version a try. I think I like the 0.7mm a little more for three reasons. First, the color is far bolder on paper. I also think the 0.7mm flows a lot more smoothly when writing. Last, I kind of really like how the "eraser" on the 0.7mm matches the pen color as opposed to the clear on the 0.5mm. That's just me. Otherwise, this pen is okay. I may get a few more colors. Guess it all depends on your writing style/preferences.

The ink is the same as any other Pilot FriXion pen - so it's already considered great for erasable inks. This pen differs in the external presentation - and I have to say it's incredible.

The body is thick for a perfect firm grasp with a grip which has just enough traction, the eraser is located at the tip for easy access and the clip just gives you another excuse to carry it around with you everywhere. And there's just that sense of style.

A definite recommend!

Just had to follow up my first review from a few months back. I threw these into the freezer for about an hour after the majority of colors stopped working and now they're good as new! :) Note to self: DO NOT leave in a hot car!

I really wish that this company would make multi-pens for these so we could just swap out ink and only have to toe around one pen. other than that, i absolutely LOVE these!!!

I really love this one, but had the same problem where the pen stopped working suddenly. I think if the ink cartridge is exposed to high heat (like in your car) the pen stops working.

I wish I had these pens when I was at school! I use them at work now and it's great being able to write notes, and then erase them if I need to. I'm glad I found these!

Wow, I liked the original FriXion, but this one is great. Easy to carry in the pocket and click with one hand to write, and the eraser is right there without having to remove cap. The ink is not as dark as I would like, but dark enough to work good. Erases completely and the refill is the same as for the original FriXion with removable cap. Next we need a "high class" version of the retractable FriXion. As usual, great service from JetPens - Thank you so much!

Nice color, I didn't like the black FriXion ink (Looks like a pencil...), but this one is appropriately described and produces a nice not so bold line, just adequate.

The ink is not black, is gray, and a bit light at that, almost like a #2 pencil, so it beats the purpose of needing an erasable pen. If it were darker (a lot more!), it would be great. In other colors the concept works great.

Also, for being a 0.5mm, the lines are more like 0.7mm. So, this pen is in my opinion a Gray 0.7mm Pen. Or a liquid #2 HB.


This particular pen is preferable to the capped one, better and more streamlined design.

These have become my favorite workhorse pens for classes, and the 3-color set is a very handy for corrections and general writing needs. The U.S. version is slightly cheaper, but has a printed design that I'm not fond of, so I opted for the Japanese set.

These can be twisted open for refills which makes them relatively economical, however the ink gets used up quickly due to being slightly thick. Using the 0.7mm tip also causes the ink to be used up faster, but it creates a smoother and more pleasant writing experience.

The eraser is not like a typical pencil eraser that gets used up quickly, instead it is a hard rubber that shows very little wear even after a lot of use - but it still works great!

The ink color is relatively light compared to gel pens such as the G2 or Signo, but it's still perfectly acceptable in my opinion.

I prefer the retractable style after trying the capped version for a while, since you don't cover the eraser when posting the cap. However the retractable cartridge doesn't fit quite as snug as the capped style, so there is a very slight jiggling feeling to the pen during writing, whereas the capped version is very solid-feeling.

The little plastic "wallet" that they come in isn't anything special, but it's nice for staying organized.

Got all my pens yesterday. Simply love my frixion pens. All the colors are simply great. Love the smoothness with which I can write with these.

One of my favorite pens to use for school. Puts down a very smooth, wet line that is easily and cleanly erased from most types of paper (a little iffy on gloss.) The knock mechanism is much more intuitive than the original cap design, though it doesn't feel as "solid" on the page as the original because of this. One of the downsides is that it runs out of ink quickly, but it is definitely worth paying for refills in my opinion.

The erasable ink piqued my curiosity so I thought I would try this pen out. I wasn't really impressed when I started using it, although the ink is erasable with the frixion tip on the opposite end, the ink itself is more pink in color. The ink also skips, which I thought was weird because usually gel ink pens write nice solid lines. The pen body isn't as comfortable as it looks, the body is actually very stiff and the rubber grip isn't very comfortable on the fingers. Its a nice looking pen and if you're looking for ink that erases then I would recommend buying, otherwise I don't think I'll buy this pen again.

This a GREAT pen! I practically use it everyday in school and I LOVE it!!! i only wish it had a little more ink :( but other than that they are amazing!1

I absolutely LOVE these pens!!! I have ordered about three times, everytime a new style comes out, I re-order. I use them in my planner to keep it looking neat when I have to erase something. They erase without flaw and the ink color is a vivid color that keeps my planner looking bright and cheerful!!! Did I mention that I LOVE these pens!!! GREAT product!!!

These pens are ULTRA smooth. The pen looks nice and feels good in the hand. They erase well, especially on good quality paper (magazine paper warps slightly). The colors are ok, but a bit washed out. I can barely tell the difference between orange and red, and the black/blue-black/blue pens are VERY subtle variations. I'm using these pens to write in test-prep books and they work great, but I can only really assign 6/10 colors to different resources, because there's no way I'd be able to tell the difference between blue and blue-black or red and orange notes side by side written in a book. So... I'm addicted enough that I don't want to wait for a return/reorder, but if I were to do it again, I'd only order the colors I need and save myself $13.

Oh, and the ink WILL disappear in very hot conditions, but my test sheet (placed under a hair dryer) came back to near-normal when placed in the freezer. Totally legible, though a little lighter. That's good enough for me. For archival purposes, these pens are not a great idea, but this is perfect for my book annotations, day planner, etc. FYI: friction-erased bits don't come back in the freezer.

my FAVOURITE pens of all time!! Total eraseability, ink is very smoth and the colors are beautiful! Only downside is that the ink goes through pretty quickly, I've gone through maybe a dozen already, bought individually from a local stationary store (in Canada) before they stopped stocking them. Thank goodness for internet!

Not for fast writers. Did notice have to slow down or ink wouldn't get on paper or be smeared by the tip. Think of it similar to using those correction pens. Ink isn't as black as I would like.

Would buy the pen again!
