Enjoy Pilot's popular FriXion ink in a lean pen body. And a lean tip size! The FriXion Ball Slim has a 0.38 mm tip, perfect for everyday writing as well as the tiny annotations you need to cram into the margins of your textbooks. The svelte clip-less profile lets you pile a bunch of them in your pen case with room to spare for more pens and pencils. You can even hang your pen, by stringing a lanyard through the hole in the knocker.

FriXion ink is a thermosensitive ink that can be erased by rubbing. To erase, use the special rubber “eraser” tip at the top of the pen and watch the ink cleanly disappear.

Interestingly, erased ink reappears at temperatures below 14° F (-10° C). A freezer is cold enough to make this happen. It is like magic ink for adults! Due to the thermosensitive nature of FriXion ink, we advise against using it for mailings, or leaving the written materials in hot cars or in environments that expose them to a lot of friction.

Note: To change the refill, unscrew the transparent grip area to remove it. Pull out the old refill and insert the new refill, ensuring that it is securely held in place. Then, screw the transparent piece back on.

Q: My Pilot FriXion pen is not writing well. It seems to be dried out or writing with clear ink. What should I do?
The FriXion ink formula is thermo-sensitive, which causes it to become invisible when heat from friction is applied. If the pen has been exposed to warm temperatures or direct sunlight, this may have caused the ink inside the pen to be "erased." Please try to store the pens in your freezer overnight, then remove them for an hour or two prior to writing to allow them to come back to room temperature. This can usually reactivate the coloring in the ink and allow the pens to write as normal.

I already have several frixion pens & really like them. I got this thinking I'd use the green ink as a highlighter (I often underline in documents rather than highlighting over words) to use it up until I replaced it with an ink color I'd want to write with, but even this didn't pan out- the color is far too light. I had another light green frixion pen that came in a multipack that worked OK but I guess that was because the 0.7 thickness made it legible.

So I wastefully replaced the ink before it was used up with a black refill, and it's a lovely pen. I tend to prefer wider-diameter pens b/c I have arthritis & do a ton of writing, but sometimes it actually seems to help to switch it up, and as thin pens go this is comfortable. It's lightweight, nice-looking, and writes (and erases) well, so a nice second-string pen to keep with me for less frequent use.
