DescriptionSpecificationsFrequently Asked Questions (1)
These pens from Pilot erase by friction, and are a breakthrough in erasable ink technology! The pens have a special rubber end to rub the thermo sensitive ink away with, thus no eraser by-products are produced, yet the ink disappears magnificently. The pen writes smoothly, in vibrant colors, and erases without a trace!

Interestingly enough, the ink in these pens will actually reappear when the temperature reaches below – 10 C (under 14 Fahrenheit). A freezer is sufficiently cold enough to make the ink start to reappear. It is like a magic pen for adults!

Because the ink in this pen is thermo sensitive, we do not advise for it to be left in hot cars, used for mailing, or subjected to a condition that exposes it to a lot of friction.

Q: My Pilot FriXion pen is not writing well. It seems to be dried out or writing with clear ink. What should I do?
The FriXion ink formula is thermo-sensitive, which causes it to become invisible when heat from friction is applied. If the pen has been exposed to warm temperatures or direct sunlight, this may have caused the ink inside the pen to be "erased." Please try to store the pens in your freezer overnight, then remove them for an hour or two prior to writing to allow them to come back to room temperature. This can usually reactivate the coloring in the ink and allow the pens to write as normal.

This is a fine pen.

Really, it isn't a bad pen! There are certainly better ones out there, but as far as erasable pens go this is as good as it gets. To those who have problems with smearing: if you don't let the ink dry, all you are going to do is smear it!

That being said, the ink could probably dry a bit faster. The pen feels kind of cheap and is too light for my tastes.

I love this pen. I usually use fountain pens, but this pen writes smoothly and is easy for my arthritic hands to hold. This version of the pen is easier than the retractable versions for me to grip. I love using it in my Daytimer planner, because it makes a clear, clean line but can be erased cleanly. I appreciate the subtle shading of the ink on some papers. I also like the the color of this black -- not too dark; it is easy on my eyes. The ink erases cleanly from almost all the papers I have, except that it smudges, instead of erasing, on thermal paper such as cash register receipts. I have 20 Frixion pens in different colors and writing widths, and not one has ever failed me.

The one that worked was very nice, but I will not be buying these pens again.
Definitely an avoid from me.

This is not a reliable pen. I've bought it several times, always with the same problem. The ink skips, and sometimes you try to erase and the ink smears. I love friXion products, but this is probably their worst.

This is in reference to the previous comment concerning these pens.
I have never tried the 0.7 mm but I absolutely love the 0.5 mm - they erase well; the type of paper being used makes a world of difference. Also, I wipe the eraser off after each use to avoid an possible black smears and it has worked rather well. These are not like the old Papermate erasable pens from years ago, these actually do work.
I am purchasing two more 6 packs of the 0.5 mm today and will be add this website to my bookmarks.
