A breakthrough in writing technology has made available the erasable pen you have always been waiting for. These pens from Pilot erase by friction. The pens have a special rubber end to rub the thermo sensitive ink away with, thus no eraser by-products are produced, yet the ink disappears magnificently (and the rubber never wears out!) The pen writes smoothly, in vibrant colors, and erases without a trace! Best of all, they are made of 76% recycled plastic.

Interestingly enough, the ink in these pens will actually reappear when the temperature reaches below – 10 C (under 14 Fahrenheit). A freezer is sufficiently cold enough to make the ink start to reappear. It is like a magic pen for adults!

Because the ink in this pen is thermo sensitive, we do not advise for it to be left in hot cars, used for mailing, or subjected to a condition that exposes it to a lot of friction.

Q: My Pilot FriXion pen is not writing well. It seems to be dried out or writing with clear ink. What should I do?
The FriXion ink formula is thermo-sensitive, which causes it to become invisible when heat from friction is applied. If the pen has been exposed to warm temperatures or direct sunlight, this may have caused the ink inside the pen to be "erased." Please try to store the pens in your freezer overnight, then remove them for an hour or two prior to writing to allow them to come back to room temperature. This can usually reactivate the coloring in the ink and allow the pens to write as normal.

I really want to like this line of pens; but can't say I do. To me, as other reviewers said, line is too scratchy and not consistent. No typical gel pen glide to it either. Ordered the upgrade from Jet Pens (retractable) and we'll see if that's better.

It feels nice to write with, but the line it puts down is rather watery and faded; if you draw a line really quickly, it will also skip a bit (noticeable when I try to underline or circle things). The case also looks rather lame. I think the pen bodies for the 0.4mm version are much better, so even if you want to use a 0.7mm tip, I'd switch the cartridges (they fit).

I bought this pen in Taiwan because apparently the phenomenon hasn't dried out there yet either! The ink isn't bold enough for me and again the 0.7mm is too thick for me. A design flaw is that the eraser is on the top of the pen and not on the cap so when you cap the pen, you have to remove it in order to erase.
