What are Hi-Tec C pens?

Pilot Hi-Tec C pens are special pens that are currently very popular in Japan. They are highly sought after in the US, but are very difficult to find in stores.

The fine tipped point of Pilot Hi-Tec C pens allow you to write with incredible precision. Moreover the ink is chemically formulated so that it will not bleed after it dries.

Hi-Tec C fans immediately recognize the brilliant design of these pens. They are available in .25mm, 0.3mm, 0.4mm and 0.5mm sizes and in a variety of colors.

The color is very attractive and the ink is quite nice overall, but the tip is fragile and scratchy. It slows down my writing speed, and it causes tears in my paper; I don't consider myself heavy handed: I use .3mm lead and other .25 gels and .4 ball-points with no trouble at all. Unfortunately the tip is a pretty big problem. After trying both, I definitely prefer the Pentel Slicci over this.

I love the color of this ink. It's a pity that Pilot (or is it JetPens?) don't offer blue-black refills, since replacing just the ink and nib and keeping the barrel is environmentally sensible....

I found the 0.25 a bit scratchy on regular inexpensive paper--a Mead notebook, laser printer paper, and the like--at least at the rapid speed I write. On Clairefontaine it does well :) but at work I'm usually scribbling on someone else's meeting handouts. The 0.30 is a better choice for me, therefore.

This pen is one of the best pens I've ever used.

The pen isn't fancy looking or anything, but geez does it take a beating. I use this at work and have had customers borrow it to sign checks or the like, and they've had horrible death grips that end up tearing through the paper. And, somehow, the tip of this pen is as perfect as when I first bought it.

The ink is smooth, never stutters, never does anything wrong... the color is very nice, pretty much what you'd expect from a blue black. Very saturated and deep color.

It so far has the second-thinnest tip I've seen on a pen, and doesn't feel scratchy at all.

It really is a great pen! I've tried all sorts of pens, including more expensive ones, but these have not failed me. They're tough, and I will always rely on them for as long as they're around.

I buy these by the dozen and have gone through several boxes. They last a long time.
My only problem is that they are subject to destruction if dropped with the cap off. Not something I blame the pen for just limits my use of the pen to more stable situations.
