Pilot Iroshizuku Fountain Pen Ink - 50 ml Bottle - Yama-guri Wild Chestnut (Dark Brown)

Nice chocolate brown color, smooth writing ink with no feathering and no bleed through on good paper. A little pricey but most quality items are. You can find a similar color and quality in Herbin inks.

I love this ink, and I must respectfully disagree with the person who said it is too light in color. I believe their fountain pen nib and/or feed is the problem. I have used Yama-guri in a couple of different fountain pens and consider it a rich, dark, earthy brown, and I love using it in my journal. As a matter of fact, I like this ink so much that I bought a Pilot Iroshizuku Custom Heritage 91 fountain pen in the matching color with 14K rhodium-plated nib in medium. It is perfect with the Yama-guri ink which flows smoothly, and it is not a watery, weak color!
BTW, Pilot, as of February 2010, has, so far, manufactured fountain pens identified as Custom Heritage 91 models to match Iroshizuku Tsuki-Yo, Yama-Guri, Yama-Budo and Kiri-Same ink colors. The barrels and caps plastic resin, and they are the color of the ink, and clip & trim are rhodium-plated steel. The nib is 14K solid gold and rhodium plated in sizes fine, medium and broad. The sizes are typical Japanese widths which are one width narrower than same-named European-sized nibs.
I own the Kiri-Same in broad and find that broad shows off the Kiri-Same misty rain gray better than a narrower nib. I also have the Tsuki-Yo pen in broad and the Moonlit Night blue-black color is delicious as it flows from the broad Japanese nib. The Custom Heritage 91 fountain pens cost 10,500 Yen in Japan--that's about $115 in the USA, and I recommend that JetPens import them. I think they are terrific with these wonderful inks.

I have two other Iroshizuku inks—Momiji and Konpeki—and loved the rich colors. Consequently, when this came out I thought I would add it to my collection of sepia/dark brown inks even though I've been relatively happy with Noodler's Walnut ink. Unfortunately, I've been quite disappointed with yama-guri. First, I tested it on Rhodia, Fabrio Medievalis, and card stock and found that it is rather faint requiring multiple passes to reach a dark brown. I would place it as a light to medium brown and not a dark brown. This lightness may be useful for drawing or ink painting but makes it a frustrating ink for writing. Secondly, it has a very slight greenish cast to it whereas I had assumed that a chestnut would have a bit more red to it.

Superb ink, wonderful rich dark brown color. Use it primarily to take notes in a Lamy 2000 with EF nib, which is close to a Pilot F nib. On some paper in looks darker than others, like any ink will exhibit shade qualities. But overall, the nicest ink I have purchased this year. I will be looking at other Iroshizuku colors when my budget allows...
