Excellent value, fit...

Excellent value, fit & finish for the money.
For some time, I‘ve thought the Pilot 78G was the best deal in an inexpensive fountain pen with a Japanese fine nib, but that has now changed with the Pilot Metropolitan. Although the nib is essentially the same as that on the slightly less-expensive 78G, the Metropolitan cap and barrel are nicer and heftier since they are made of brass.
The fine Japanese nib is more like a Western extra-fine nib.
The taupe and lizard version is very nice looking and, filled with Noodler’s black ink, the pen wrote well right out of the box. However, I also purchased the all-black version and I did make a slight adjustment to its nib. I opened up the tines a little to increase the flow since it was too dry for me (I used thin, .001 and .002 brass shims purchased at Ace Hardware). The nib and feed are friction fit—like the 78G nib and feed—and can easily be pulled out for adjustment or thorough cleaning.
Thanks again to JetPens for offering such a terrific product and for their continued excellent service.

I previously purchased the M nib Metropolitan when it first came out and was very satisfied. I was excited about the F nib because I needed something finer for note-taking. This F nib writes like a western XF, but is just as smooth as the M nib, considering it's narrower nib. The flow is good and the nib moves smoothly over decent paper. I flushed the nib with dilute detergent solution before use. I love that the converter is included along with a cartridge. Very satisfying feel with a nice heft. The metal barrel and cap feel solidly made, looks good, and the cap clicks nicely onto the section without much effort. Posting the cap is adequate, but not foolproof. The clip holds firmly with just the right pressure. A great everyday pen. Feels a lot more expensive than it is.

Highly recommended for anybody wanting a reliable, medium-weight pen and unbeatable for the price.

Not very flexible tip for calligraphy, but great as an everyday pen.

This is my first fountain pen, and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. The writing is smooth, the pen itself feels good, and the metal body gives it a pleasing heft. I'll probably be ordering another one soon.

This is the first fountain pen I have purchased in a long time. I am very pleased with how easily it writes and the fact that so far it has not shown any tendency to dry out between uses. I also think it looks cool and will probably buy another one or two at some point.

Got it to teach my children to write with fountain pens, forces a style of writing that a ball point or pencil does not imitate.

Well, I don't have any...

Well, I don't have any more expensive, "nicer" fountain pens to compare this to, but I think it's wonderful. The single black cartridge provided lasts for a while, while the converter holds about half as much (I think). It's wonderfully smooth-writing with an excellent line width that also means it works reasonably well on lower-quality paper. It's a comfortable weight both posted and unposted, and the section is functional if not incredibly comfortable. Aesthetically, the taupe color is attractive and doesn't contrast too heavily with the black of the section, and the lizard-patterned band is attractive and tasteful. The nib isn't fancy, but it has an interesting little pattern on it. The presentation box is also pretty classy. I also have a gold one, and the ink in it leaks onto my fingers, but I don't have that problem with this one. All in all, it's an excellent pen well worth its price (and perhaps more).

tl;dr - Writes well, looks good, price is fantastic. Woot.

I really want to love this pen because it writes so beautifully, but I always somehow end up with ink all over my fingers. I can't tell where it's leaking from, and it seems like other people aren't having this problem, so maybe my pen just wasn't made well. I still use it, even though I have to wash my hands a lot to get the ink off.

Love this pen. Writes smoothly, beautiful, elegant looking, good weight with or without the cap, which stays on snugly. I've tried a number of cheap fountain pens, and this is the best for the price so far!
