Excellent value, fit & finish for the money.
For some time, I‘ve thought the Pilot 78G was the best deal in an inexpensive fountain pen with a Japanese fine nib, but that has now changed with the Pilot Metropolitan. Although the nib is essentially the same as that on the slightly less-expensive 78G, the Metropolitan cap and barrel are nicer and heftier since they are made of brass.
The fine Japanese nib is more like a Western extra-fine nib.
The taupe and lizard version is very nice looking and, filled with Noodler’s black ink, the pen wrote well right out of the box. However, I also purchased the all-black version and I did make a slight adjustment to its nib. I opened up the tines a little to increase the flow since it was too dry for me (I used thin, .001 and .002 brass shims purchased at Ace Hardware). The nib and feed are friction fit—like the 78G nib and feed—and can easily be pulled out for adjustment or thorough cleaning.
Thanks again to JetPens for offering such a terrific product and for their continued excellent service.

I previously purchased the M nib Metropolitan when it first came out and was very satisfied. I was excited about the F nib because I needed something finer for note-taking. This F nib writes like a western XF, but is just as smooth as the M nib, considering it's narrower nib. The flow is good and the nib moves smoothly over decent paper. I flushed the nib with dilute detergent solution before use. I love that the converter is included along with a cartridge. Very satisfying feel with a nice heft. The metal barrel and cap feel solidly made, looks good, and the cap clicks nicely onto the section without much effort. Posting the cap is adequate, but not foolproof. The clip holds firmly with just the right pressure. A great everyday pen. Feels a lot more expensive than it is.

Highly recommended for anybody wanting a reliable, medium-weight pen and unbeatable for the price.

Order arrived on time and in fantastic condition. I loaded the pen with Diamine Red Dragon ink and it writes perfectly as soon as I put the pen to paper. I do wish I had selected the medium nib instead of the fine, but it writes well in my little note book and I can see myself using this one for a very long time. I love that it came with a converter that was already installed and easy to use, I'll probably never use the cartridge it came with. I have also heard people had problems with the cap staying on with other versions of this pen, but the one I have seems pretty sturdy and it has a satisfying snap when it closes.

I originally bought this pen for use on special occasions, but it has become my go-to pen. It has the look and feel of a more expensive pen, with a nice heft and a smooth writing experience. It worked well out of the box with the included cartridge. I gave it a couple of shakes (watch out for blots the first time) and it wrote a perfect line. Since then, the only time I had trouble with it was when I loaned it to my mom and she wrote with the nib upside-down. A couple shakes and a dab of moisture on the slit and I was back in business.

When I first got the pen, it wrote a slightly heavier line than I'm used to (a Uniball Signo Extra-Fine), but after the cartridge ran out I switched to a converter with Diamine ink, and it writes with a fine line. I've noticed some complaints about the cap staying put, but I haven't experienced any problems with that. The pen stays securely shut, even when floating in the bottom of my purse, and when I'm writing it remains snug on the back of the pen. I've tried the pen with the included cartridge, a bladder converter (also included), and a piston converter and found that all three work well. I've also flown with the pen multiple times and had no trouble with leaks or writing quality.

Overall, this is a great pen at a great price.

The fine nib on this Pilot Metropolitan is perfect for me since I don’t own any fountain pen paper. The fine nib allows me to use my current cheap notebook to take notes without any worries of the ink feathering on me. The lines are thin and crisp, and I am even able to use both sides of the page (using Noodler's black).
The fit and finish of this pen is also perfect. The craftsmanship is superb; I have dropped this pen twice and it still works perfectly.

Bottom line, I would definitely recommend this pen.

Pilot Metros are my go-to pen. They tend to write more like gel pens, they write so smoothly. I tried the fine nib to see if it worked better with all of my Moleskine notebooks. And it worked like a charm, no bleedthrough, no discernible feathering. Sweet!

I bought this pen on a recommendation from a colleague and I have to say this is a great pen. It's a little small for my hand and when posting, one has to push and twist the top on, but the heft is nice but the best part is the writing. I got an F nib which compares very closely to the Lamy EF. This nib is actually smoother and with better flow than the Lamy which I consider high praise indeed. Also, I got the converter (CON-50) which fits nicely and is easy to fill. OK, I cheat on filling. I got an insulin syringe from CVS for $0.50 which works quite nicely. I highly recommend this pen

Really good pen for a beginner like me. Love the design of it, and really easy to use. A must for those who are coming into the fountain pen world
