This is my first fountain pen, so take that as youmay, but I very much enjoy using this pen. It is amazing to write with. I literally don't want to stop. I used to journal a page or two, since starting with this I average around four. It was easy to use right out of the box, though I have had a few issues with ink leakage if I don't leave it right-side-up. Otherwise it has been super well behaved. I haven't used the converter yet, but can't wait.

My second style of FP....

My second style of FP. I have two Lamy Safaris (medium and extra fine), so this pen is a big change for me. I went through the included ink cartridge quickly, and bought a bottle of ink to use with the pressure plate converter. Unfortunately the ink I loaded into it was acrylic, and I was worried that I just ruined the pen.
But this pen is a snap to clean if you're willing to take it apart. I looked up a video on how to dismantle the nib and feed. Once apart I was able to clean out all of the bad ink, and now it is working as well as it did when I first got it. I think this is a great pen for an inexperienced user like me.
I also love the weight; it's not too heavy, but compared to the plastic Lamy Safari it feels hefty. Haven't felt fatigued using it, and it is mostly used for drawing/sketching. I might look for a different style of converter since I refill it often, but that's just my personal preference. The pressure plate style converter included works fine.

This is my first Pilot Fountain Pen. I've used the low end Kaweco and Lamy in the past and I like this one far better than those. This is a very solid feeling pen with a much more premium feel than the others mentioned above. The fine tip also feels a lot smoother than the Kaweco and Lamy pens which always felt a little scratchy. Love this pen and price.

I found out about this...

I found out about this line when only the medium (really semi-broad) nibs were available. Now I've added several fine-points to the group. I use fountain pens for most of my handwriting and these are great. I have several [much] more expensive pens that don't write as nicely as this one.

The only shortcoming I would point out is common to most fountain pens... If you take this on an airline you want it inside something inkproof like a plastic bag. Even driving across a wide range of elevation can give you enough air pressure change for awkward surprises.

Love, love, love this...

Love, love, love this pen!!! This is my 3rd Metropolitan. I haven't inked this one yet, and may not for some time. But I have no doubt that it will perform just as flawlessly as my other two. The Pilot Metropolitan has replaced the Lamy Safari as my favorite everyday pen. Nice to look at, comfortable to hold, writes like a high-end pen and works every time I pick it up. What's not to love?

I may be biased--the Pilot Metro is the first fountain pen I bought. I do not have any plans to buy pens as an investment or ever spend over $50. I think this pen is perfect. I enjoy the weight of it and the length. It is a great looking pen--comes in a nice case with a refillable reservoir, although I have just been using the disposable. Personally I see no need for another fountain pen, unless maybe a finer nib size is needed. The price is so reasonable that I have bought several as gifts. I have purchased several other pens in similar to slightly higher price ranges. This one outshines them all, in my amateur opinion.

Pros: Quite smooth, good for a starter.
Good quality for the price.

Cons: The converter can not hold much ink.

I've had fountain pens before, but nothing as serious as this pen. The Pilot Metropolitan pen has a nice weight to it, mainly centered in the cap. The body is pen is lightweight and with the center of gravity just past the decorative markings on the barrel. When you place the cap at the rear of the pen, the added weight keeps the pen resting softly in the crook of your hand between your first finger and thumb. The body is supremely smooth with ends of the pen being nicely rounded.

The cap pulls off with a low smooth pop, while putting the cap back on results in a nice audible click. The pen I received came loaded with the converter already attached, and a black ink cartridge in the case (which is black aluminum with a pre-cut foam interior and transparent plastic lid; I would highly suggest getting one of the myriad pencil/pen cases offered on JetPens to carry this beauty around). I ordered the Pilot Iroshizuku Ink for this pen so I kept the converter installed. The converter that comes is of the bladder type instead of the piston. Filling the pen was a breeze after watching (just to be careful) and reading some of the JetPens' articles and videos.

The pen writes brilliantly. The Fine nib is perfect for my writing style (I am an engineer and my script is very compact), and the ink flows at the merest hint of touching paper. The ink doesn't overflow from the pen, but deposits just the smallest amount that is still very precise on paper.

JetPens did a marvelous job delivering the pen and other items that were purchased in a timely fashion. The box they shipped the contents in was well padded with copious of amounts of bubble wrap to ensure no damage was sustained during shipping. My wife was enthralled when I received this pen and is now pushing me to show her the other varieties of the Metropolitan pen so she can get one of her own. I highly recommend this pen to anyone that needs precise penmanship or just enjoys using a fountain pen.
