Pilot's Metropolitan pen is a sleek smooth-shaped pen great for everyday use. The body features a stylish matte finish over a brass barrel with chrome accents. The slightly wide body and good weightiness make it easy to hold and use, and thus a perfect match for fountain pen novices as well as seasoned users. The pen comes with a box, one black ink cartridge, and an aerometric converter.

Dimensions: 5.4 inches (13.7 cm) long when capped, 6.0 inches (15.2 cm) long when cap is posted on end, 0.5 inches (1.3 cm) diameter.

One of my favorites!..., January 23, 2013

One of my favorites! The pen body is very well-balanced and has a pleasant matte finish with a wide ring of slightly shinier metal for decoration.

The clip is secure but not overly difficult to open like some pens. The cap posts snugly and the pen stays balanced whether posted or not.

The grip section is a glossy plastic (though not slippery) with a ridge to protect your fingers from sliding onto the nib.

The nib has no flex and is very smooth, and I love the way it feels on paper - no scratchiness whatsoever here.

The squeeze-type converter is an interesting gimmick, but after using it for a while I decided I prefer the normal piston converter better, since they give the ability to see ink levels and if they're completely clean or not, so I bought one that is compatible.

The price-point can't be beat for this level of quality. Highly recommended - this is definitely a strong competitor to the Lamy Safari in my opinion!

This review is from Pilot Metropolitan Fountain Pen - Medium Nib - Silver Zigzag Body
after reading other reviews, I decided to get one of these. I LOVE IT! This is a great step-up from the platinum preppy. This pen has a beautiful and smooth-writing nib, and the ink in the included cartridge is pretty dark and nice. the medium nib writes about equivalent to an 0.7 or 0.8 gel/liquid ink pen. I stuck in the cartridge, and after leaving it nib down for about 10 minutes, I was able to start writing. the converter looks a bit cheap, but I haven't tried it yet.

This pen is amazing. The packaging for it is simple and stylish, and definitely nicer than some more expensive beginner pens (the Lamy Safari, for example, comes in a cardboard box). The design of the pen is classy and timeless. The design band isn't overstated at all, but rather subtle and attractive.

The pen itself writes neatly, though the medium nib is a bit too broad for my liking. I'm left-handed, so I tend to smudge ink with broader nibs.

I won't even say that this pen is great "for the price," it's just great. Don't hesitate if you're on the fence, you can't go wrong with this thing.

This is only my 2nd type of fountain pen but wow I am impressed. This is a wonderful pen even under heavy usage. I have been using Noodler's Blue Eel and Gruene Cactus Eel in both of my Metropolitans. So far I have written 46 pages of notes in the last 4 days with two of these pens (one green ink, one blue ink). I did have to dip the nibs in water once to clear them, that was probably because of the special lubricated Eel ink I guess? Otherwise they have been amazingly smooth and consistent compared to the Platinum Preppy pens I was using before. What's more amazing is that this pen did it on extremely cheap $1/notebook paper. The squeeze converter holds plenty of ink (even for me) and it works perfectly too. This pen sells for much more in Japan and Europe and I can see why. My only complaints are that the clip is too stiff and the cap doesn't easily post so it tends to fall off if you don't push it on there firmly. If those two things aren't a problem for you then this is definitely a pen you want to get.

Wow! The way this pen writes is so smooth. I was expecting a nib that would be scratchy for the price I paid for it but I was pleasantly surprised. Will be purchasing more.
