after reading other reviews, I decided to get one of these. I LOVE IT! This is
a great step-up from the platinum preppy. This pen has a beautiful and
smooth-writing nib, and the ink in the included cartridge is pretty dark and
nice. the medium nib writes about equivalent to an 0.7 or 0.8 gel/liquid ink
pen. I stuck in the cartridge, and after leaving it nib down for about 10
minutes, I was able to start writing. the converter looks a bit cheap, but I
haven't tried it yet.

I had expected to receive a cheap fountain pen, regarding the low price. How
surprised I was to hold such a significant pen with a quite heavy metal-body in
my hand. The nib is perfect for me. I am a lefty and can use this fountain pen
Writing with this pen is such fun, I desperately need some inspiration and
topics, I feel the to handwrite, now that I own this pen.
I can not comment on the converter, since I used the PILOT cartridge with black
ink that came with the pen.
I might order a second one, so I can have use it with a nice complementary
colour, orange or pink.
The ergonommics are not perfect, because the ridge (where the cap touches the
pen) is quite sharp which is annoying when I write more than just a few lines.
Still 5 points, because with free shipping in the US the value what you get, for
the price you pay, is amazing!

This was my first serious fountain, and I was more than pleasently suprised at
the quality of the pen versus the price I payed. The Pros will highly outweigh
Pros: Cost - can't be beat for the quality of pen. The metal body is heafty, but
not heavy, making for a comfortable grip and writing experience. It is a well
balanced pen, and while others have had issues with the neck ridge, I tend to
hold my pen a little further from the neck, so this has not been an issue for me
unless I'm penning a lengthy letter to a pal and my grip begins to slide towards
the front of the pen. The nib is smooth, smooth, smooth! Even having been left
in my purse for weeks, I pick it up and write as if I had just put it down. I'm
currently using the Pilot converter, and it seems that I can go for a week or
more with fairly heavy writing and not have to fill it back up. THe nib also
stays very clean. Again, after bouncing around in my purse for weeks, there is
only a little bit of ink on the nib that needed to be wiped clean. The nib is
also a good "medium". It's not an overly heavy line, I can't wait to try a fine
nib Metro. The choices of colors and designs around the middle of the pen are
fantastic, but the zigzag is just really classy. I think dots will be my next
Cons: The cap doesn't always seat well on the back of the pen. I have acciently
flung the cap several times while writing, or preparing to write! If it seated
better on the back end of the pen, this would have made it perfect for sure.
Also, if the neck of the pen had ribbing or some sort of texture, that would be
great, it's very smooth and sometimes the pen will shift as I write, but it's
not off-putting enough for me to put this pen down!
All in all, this is a FANTASTIC pen for the price. I'm going to be purchasing
more for my collection, and for gifts as well!

I loved this pen for the first 12 days I owned it...but starting this morning,
the cap will not "click" on very tightly! It falls right off unless I'm holding
the pen in my hand. Have gotten in touch with Pilot hoping something can be
Amazing pen for its price...

Amazing pen for its price or even for three times its price. It's almost a shame
to call this a starter pen. The nib is incredibly smooth, much better than the
Lamy Safari, which I always thought was overrated. In fact I reach for this pen
as often as my Pelikan 200, and I dearly love Pelikans. My only initial
complaint is the placement of the screw threads for the cap, but if I hold the
pen lower on the grip, it's fine and even feels better balanced that way.

I -love- this pen. It writes smooth, looks a lot more expensive than it is and
is surprisingly well made. Pilot's idea of "fine" is a lot finer than any other
brand I've seen. Which is really nice. My first FP was a Lamy and I found their
fine nib way to broad for my liking. So if you want a broader tip I'd say that
the medium nib is comparable to Lamy's fine nib.
The CON-20 adaptor it comes with is functional enough. It's less messy than the
CON-50 adaptor I purchased with my Pilot Penmanship FP. It didn't quite fill to
my liking by just squeezing it so I pulled it out and filled it with a dropper.
Overall, I'd say this is definitely comparable to some of the $40 FP's I've
