DescriptionSpecificationsQuestions & Answers
The Pilot Prera Clear, also known as the Prera Iro-Ai, has a beautifully clean look and writes luxuriously. The acrylic body is accented with tasteful pops of transparent color, and the light weight is easy on your hand. Every last detail of the pen is well-made, down to the cushioned click you feel when closing the cap. Fill the pen with the ink of your choice using the pre-installed converter, or insert an ink cartridge. The transparent body lets you admire the ink and monitor remaining ink levels. Once you have loaded your ink, you can get creative with the calligraphy nib, by drawing wide diagonal lines and thin horizontal lines to create stylish lettering and flourishes.

This pen comes in a box with a black ink cartridge and a CON-50 converter.

For help with using a converter, see our blog post.

The Pilot Prera Blue...
December 27, 2013
The Pilot Prera Blue fountain pen is a smooth writer right out of the box, no pen tuning was necessary beyond my usual cleaning of a new pen before putting in ink. I have the medium calligraphy nib and find it is a little more narrow than a western medium, but most Japanese nibs are like this and I had expected it. It writes a smooth line with just a touch of line variation. The converter goes into place smoothly and feels secure. It draws up ink to full capacity the first try. There is a little bead inside the converter that can rattle a little, but I believe it is there to help move the ink and it seems to do the job well. My pen started great from the first time I wrote with it. Everything comes apart for easy cleaning too. I love the colorful end caps combined with the transparent body and that the nib is hidden under an opaque cap. You see the ink, but the pops of color lend it a sense of style. I may have to get another of these light-weight writers in a different cap color.

All Preras are great...

All Preras are great pens. They are a step or perhaps a step and a half above entry level, and that is not a negative. I have two other Preras, both purchased in Japan. One is fitted with the Calligraphy Medium nib. Other than the annoying penchant that the Prera has of drawing ink into the space between the cap and the cap liner, I have no issues with the pen. I would, and most likely will, purchase Preras again.

I bought this as one...

I bought this as one of the first stub nibs I had ever owned. When I first used it, it was a little bit sharp around the edges. So I made some figure 8s with it on some Magic Mesh to fine tune it, and it has become softer while still providing a nice, italic look to my handwriting. It's now a pleasure to write with and lives up to the good experience I have come to expect from Pilot Prera fountain pens.
