Aside from the other reviewer, whos only real problem is that they did not flush the pen prior to using it, nothing a quick rinse would not have taken care of....

it is a wonderful pen, a daily workhorse and if you get board of it you can swap out the nib with a pilot plumix medium italic....

Maybe it's just me, but I can't get this pen to work properly. I'm using a Pilot blue/black cartridge and the pen will only put down a pale, inconsistent line of ink that skips. I have other Pilot pens, including the Petit1 and Varsity, among a number of rollerballs, and they are all much better than the Prera I got. I really wanted to like this pen, because it's beautiful, but I'm really disappointed. Back it goes.

1) An outstanding fine point, perfect for making quick notes in margins or short entries in my journal. I didn't know such a combination of fine line and smooth consistent flow to paper was technically possible. This nib seems incapable of skipping. Unlike the _EF_ nib in the Penmanship, which seems better suited for finest detail and drawing, this nib can still be used for writing.

2) Maintains a fine line even on poorer paper, including newspaper crosswords, when using Noodler's Black (warning: non-zero Nib Creep with this ink).

3) I even use it in handwriting practice as the finer line reveals errors in letter shape that were (ahem) hidden using edged nibs or normally tip'd nibs.

4) I received it on 25 Oct 2010 and it came with two cartridges and one CON-20 converter.

5) Actual color is quite close to that of the last photograph showing pen and cap adjacent to it.

6) The cap has magnets in it. Strong ones. I'll try to keep it a safe distance from portable memory devices (USB flashdrives, camera memory cards) and my digital watches and calculators.

I waited several months for jetpens to restock this pen and it has proved well worth the wait.

This _F_ nib and its _M_ sibling are so good I'm compelled to take all our Pelikans from Fahrney's Pens and put them up for sale.

Let's start off by saying this fountain pen has a VERY FINE nib. If you're used to European Fine nibs like the likes of Kaweco or Lamy, make sure you are aware that this is JAPANESE fine. Think needlepoint 0.3 and you'll get a sense of the fineness. If you like the idea of a needlepoint fountain pen that has relatively no tooth, then this is your pen!

I've had this pen for about a week now. I'm starting to like it a bit better - for me, the nib was so fine that ink would not flow, so I finally slid a thin sheet of plastic between the tines and spread them out just a tad and now it writes well. The grey color is fine for work, and I am now using this pen as my daily carry. It's very solidly constructed, and the lid is secure either capped or posted. All hardware on the pen is solid. I may get another one.

I absolutely love this pen. It far exceeded my expectations for a moderate priced fountain pen. It writes and draws with a fine line (approx. 03) and is steady in the hand. Its light weight makes it a non-stop writer, and the cartridge seems to have an endless supply of ink and hasn't forced me to make a change or try out a converter after days of heavy use.

I've been sketching with it as much as writing and can't say enough good things about the experience.

I liked this pen so much I bought a second, a rarity for me, but I suspect these pens will become a rage or a cult pen one day, and a second seemed like a must-have.

Nice pen, stylish, lightweight. The Fine nib is much finer than the Lamy Safari Extra Fine nib, and lays down an almost needle-like line. It writes and draws better on a smooth 65lb or less paper. On heavier paper with a bit of texture, the nib will feel slightly dry and scratchy.

What a great fountain pen! An excellent hand fit for those who prefer shorter pens, very good build quality and a reassuringly expensive sounding 'click' when you put the cap on. Couple that with a wonderfully smooth Fine point nib and you've got an excellent fountain pen for an excellent price.

I must beg to differ with the previous reviewer regarding colour, if anything the Prera that I received is not as bright a green as that shown above. Mine is a slightly lighter shade, not as 'loud' as the product photo, and tends more towards a 'lime' or 'grass' green than neon; when I took it out of the package it didn't scream GREEN!

I ordered this pen after I bought one in white with a fine nib. Japanese fine nibs tend to be a little too "fine" for my writing style so I opted for another Prera with a medium nib and I'm glad I did. It's one of the smoothest writing pens I've had the pleasure of owning. The medium stainless steel nib isn't as stiff as others I've used and I find it perfect for everyday writing. The Prera is a compact pen, but fits well in the hand and writes comfortably. It's soft blue color is also very attractive and draws lots of compliments from everyone who sees it. The pen comes with a couple of ink cartridges, but if you want to use bottled ink you'll want to get a converter. Overall, I'm very pleased with this pen.

This is a very nice pen. The fine nib is VERY fine--was almost concerned that it was too scratchy, but the ink flow is smooth and reliable and this pen is a delight. The fine nib requires very little pressure, but is fine/sharp enough that it works on pressure sensitive paper. The construction of the pen is very nice--I bought Ivory, and it looks very sophisticated. The clip works well, is secure; good secure *click* with the pen cap. This pen is a good value.

The Prera was the second pen I bought from JetPens, and I must say that it is a great deal for the price. The pen looks really nice in person. The Prera's nib is one of the smoothest in my collection, second only to my Montblanc Meisterstuck Classique. I got mine with a medium nib, and it gives a finer line than a western medium, but slightly wider than a western fine. Overall, I am pleased with this purchase.

I love this pen! After careful research on the Fountain Pen Network, I settled on this as my first non-disposable pen. It doesn't disappoint in any respect. Posted, it is the perfect length. The pen has a nice width and heft. The nib is quite fine, comparable to a western xxf. The blue is a lovely robins egg color. I highly recommend this as an introductory grown-up pen!

I bought this pen to be used for sketching, and I'm glad I did. The nib is fine enough to draw little details, and it writes smoothly. It is a bit too lightweight for my taste, though. Paired with a waterproof ink such as Noodler's Bulletproof black, it will make a good drawing pen for artist, which will be economical in the long run. And like the previous reviewer wrote, I love the 'click' sound this pen makes when I cap it.

This looks like a great pen, but I want to add to the review above that Pilot fountain pen ink is the best. I've tried numerous brands and Pilot flows very well, doesn't clog, and is, of course, very black. The nib looks extremely sharp for a fountain pen. I got the finest platinum nib for my Mont Blanc and it's just not fine enough. I'm hoping this will be better without being scratchy. By the way, the Mont Blanc ink was not as good as the Pilot ink.

One word...PENGASM!

This pen is classy. Has the lines and appearance of a pen costing much more. Reminds me of a Pelikan.

When capping, it seems be tight enough (air wise) that it slows you down and the cap gently glides into place.

Buttery smooth nib. Japanese fine, so it puts down a very, very fine line for a fountain pen.

I am in love with this pen. The fine nib on this is much finer than on a Kaweco. And the solid feeling snap on cap is wonderful. It did require just a small breaking in period for me but is behaving very nicely now.

Wonderful little pen! Smooth writer, well made, great click-closing. A converter can be used, it's easy to dismantle and clean and even the nibs can be exchanged with 78G and Penmanship, if you happen to have those. Works without problems but Penmanship is a better match (as 78G has gold plated nib). On top of all that functionality, Prera is a beautiful pen, at least to me it is. My daily writer.

I'm so sad that this pen didn't work out. It is beautiful and wrote beautifully but I've had two pens within the past year and both failed radically. My first pen cracked after only minimal and light use. Jetpens replaced this pen and after a couple of months of light use of the replacement pen the nib and feed fell out of the pen. It is so frustrating that these issues occurred and that both problems created complete failures of the pens - not just cosmetic or reparable problems. It is truly disappointing. :(

1) Cap has magnets in it. Strong ones. They may be stronger than the magnets in earphones.

I'll be keeping this pen's cap a safe distance from camera memory cards, plug-in flashdrives, ipods and other electronic devices.

2) Nib writes smoother than butter or cream, with a line consistency so perfect that I sometimes find it eerie and unreal. Even writes upside down for an even finer line, with excellent smoothness and consistency. People hoping for nonzero "tooth" in their fountain pen nib are advised to look elsewhere.

3) Pilot _M_ nib is as fine as any Sheaffer or Parker fine point, if not finer. Pilot _EF_ nib that comes with the Penmanship pen, is too fine for me to use in normal writing, or even for marginal notes. Pilot _M_ edged nib that comes with the Plumix writes fine enough for calligraphy with an individual letter's body height ranging from 2.5mm to 3mm.

4) Did not give it 5 stars because, while I love Pilot cartridges and nibs, their nib feeds (the part underneath the metal nib) are prissy little beasts, particularly when using non-Pilot inks (e.g. Pelikan Fount India or any Noodler's). The feeds either don't flow at all, or blurp drops of ink out onto my paper. Tiny air bubbles can completely block ink flow thru the fool feed and I can only get rid of them by tapping the pen repeatedly with nib upright. I put Noodler's Black in the Pilot cartridges and have better luck when I put a drop of ink into the back of the nib, to sort of prime the nib with ink, before installing a filled cartridge.

I only recommend Pilot converters to people on whom I wish a life of aggravation and inconvenience.

overall, this is a real nice pen to hold. on the downside, i put in some purple noodler's ink + converter and it doesn't flow nice at all. i need to pick me up some pilot ink!
also, i think i would much prefer the medium or bold nibs, because this fine is just too fine!

I bought a brown Prera then followed by a white Prera.
The brown one shows smudge (from finger grease / perspiration) quite clearly and requires more frequent cleaning to clear the visible smudge prints. It also makes any dust that is on it, appear visible. The darker brown attracts more heat if the pen is left under the Sun, therefore causing more ink evaporation within the pen cap.
The white one does not show the smudge, though they are there. Any dust on the white surface is hardly noticeable. The white surface does not attract as much solar heat.
Verdict : I prefer the white Prera more than the brown one.

If the Prera came in EF I'd probably use it exclusively! The only reason I switch to my Sailor sometimes is because it comes in EF.

Its's official, with me, this pen f-ing rocks! A gorgeous, smooth writing, quality instrument. Definitely worth the money on this one. Medium nib on this lays down a line slightly more thin than a Lamy fine point. Cap posts nicely and over the nib end and caps with a beautiful snick sound. I pushed some Noodler's Bulletproof Black through it and wrote a four page letter to a pen pal, zero issues.

I love this pen! It's smaller than the Kaweco Classic Sport EF. I have had some trouble with the converter easily leaking, but using the Pilot Cartridges proves to be no problem, so I might just use a syringe to fill them up with Carbon Platinum next time.
