The reviewer who said this feels like a dart WAS right. If it wasn't so
expensive I might be tempted to use it next time I got to the bar. Works just
fine, I actually really like the grip on this and how far it rides up the
barrel. What I just can't fathom is why in the world would pilot make this with
see through plastic. I know it would be a weight issue, but I don't know I would
have just prefered them to use aluminum or something more sturdy. Other than
that I really like It and recommend it.

A well executed pencil....,

A well executed pencil. Just the right amount of grip. Smartly styled right down
to the wrap around pocket clip. And unlike so many mech pencils it's solid -
doesn't feel like internal parts are rattling around when you write. One of my
every day pencils!

I first used the S series pencils after I found one at Wal-Mart, so I sprung for
this one when I saw the more elegant design. The balance is great and the pencil
is beautiful, and -- at the risk of inviting criticism -- I used 400 grit
sandpaper to reduce the sleeve to about 1/3 its standard length. By doing that
the pencil is better suited for general writing and still has all of its design
qualities.

My 2nd JetPens review....,
January 18, 2009
My 2nd JetPens review. Are you proud of me?
This Pilot S10 0.5 mm mechanical pencil looks and feels like a dart. And it
writes on target like one too. I'm almost 100% certain that if you add flights,
the wingy thingies on darts, that you could toss bull's eye's all day long with
this pencil.
The weight of its longer than normal metal grip section just somehow seems to
propel this pencil along the paper with a natural flow and makes me feel more
assured and confident in my line work. And the click button gives the most
satisfying click of any clicker that I've ever clicked before.
Yeah, there are mechanical pencils with more adjustability than this one, and I
love my fiddly pencils as much as the next person, but this is the most solid
natural feeling pencil I've used so far.
This pen is a definite bull's eye!

Pilot S10 Drafting Pencil - 0.4 mm
I have many mechanical pencils. I use them but always return to my S-10's. I
have all 5 and enjoy using all of them. I like the grip and the weight. I will
probably reorder all 5 and just put them away in case any of them break and
Pilot decides to discontinue them.
My favorites are the 4mm because I can write thin without the sensitivity of the
3mm. I also like the 7mm because I like the blue color and being able to write
relatively boldly without the extremes of the 9mm.

Pilot S10 Drafting Pencil - 0.4 mm
Great first impression! I have a lot of mechanical pencils & am not easily
impressed. Normally I would wait until I have used something a while to write a
review, but I can tell immediately this is a well made pencil. I like it. Nice
weight, well balanced, even sounds good. All metal grip is long enough to work
for a wide range of writing styles. This is a working tool not a showpiece. I
have other pencils that look cooler (a lot cooler in fact) but expect to pick
this one up regularly because of the quality build. Makes me want to spring for
the nice wooden S20!

Pilot S10 Drafting Pencil - 0.3 mm
This pencil was a very pleasant surprise to me. I don't know why I expected it
to be less of a pencil than it is but I did. This is my first pilot drafting
pencil and is a pleasure to write with. It's bottom heavy due to the metal grip
sleeve and end cap so it sets well in the hand. It has a nice girth and the fine
knurling on the grip sleeve presents the user with a nice griping surface. The
S10 has a very pleasing shape with a stylish pocket clip. Only the color is
wrong! Why yellow for the 0.3mm size? Why couldn't it have been blue? Anyway the
lead grade indicator stays in place by friction and believe me, once in place
it's not moving unless you want it too. Lead is projected in a large enough
increment that 2 clicks is all that's needed to produce enough lead to write
with. All in all a very nice pencil indeed!

Pilot S10 Drafting Pencil - 0.4 mm
For me, it's the best mechanical pencil in 0.4mm diameter lead available on the
market. It's very well built, and the grip enable you a lot of possibilities to
hold it. Remembering that the body it's a hard plastic and the grip is all
metal, but for me, this pencil rocks!

Pilot S10 Drafting Pencil - 0.7 mm
I've bought the S10 and the cheaper pilots. They are all great. Something about
the shape that make them feel good in the hand. The S10 is obviously heavier and
a high quality item. They also have a real neat look to them. I think it is the
cool clip that really sets them off. If you want a nice pencil but don't want
the look of a machine shop...This is a good choice. The plastic upper body has
been said to make it look cheap...I disagree. A nice mix if color and metal. I
also like the cap on the top. It will accomodate a pencil arrow cap eraser and
wont wobble because the cap has a long stem. Some other caps fall off easy and
wont handle the added eraser. I like to putt the cap eraser on because I need a
quick eraser for everyday use. It does however make the lead hardness indicator
useless. I don't use it anyway. Strange that these are not available many places
except for JetPens.
Oh by the way. How do these guys ship cross country so fast??? Great service.
They must know that pen and pencil people are geeky and like their stuff fast!

Pilot S10 Drafting Pencil - 0.4 mm
Probably the best bang for your buck you'll ever have. Well crafted, beautiful
and futuristic with the longest knurled grip in any pencil that's currently
being produced. (Pilot's own H-109x has its knurling up to 2/3rds of its body,
but sadly it has been discontinued and the prices are rising up to Rotring 800
levels)
Great clicking sound, smooth writing experience (probably because the default
lead is grade B) and great design.
Two things, though:
1. The knurled grip is a bit too smooth for me. Making it a bit rougher would do
no harm. But again, it's personal.
2. Whatever you do, DON'T remove the pocket clip. You will leave scratches on
it.

Pilot S10 Drafting Pencil - 0.9 mm
The Pilot S10 is a very solid and well proportioned mechanical pencil. Its heft
is well suited for its 0.9mm tasks. Its relatively long metal studded grip
allows one to find a good finger positions for the particular objective at hand
from dark heavy lines to shading to wide boundaries.
