There are many fine mechanical pencils offered on this website and I have used a number of them. Ounce for ounce, the Pilot S3 offers the best value. An extremely reasonable price for a durable, attractive and comfortable drafting and writing tool. Highly recommended!

I've recently decided to purchase a 0.9 mechanical pencil and I was debating on buying this one and the yellow Pentel Sharp Drafting Pencil. Although the Pentel pencil is a good line of drafting pencil (and I used to use the 0.5 and 0.7 version), I decided to go with this one. The weight distribution and handling won me over because the Pentel Sharp Drafting Pencil series are a little too thin and awkward to use for my liking.
I also preferred the colour of this one :)

A winner right out of the box! When I first saw these on the site, I was attracted to how stylish these were (I also puchased the .3mm) and thought to give them a try. At first I was skeptical as I pushed the add to cart button due to the barrell size and was worried I might not like the feel. But, when I opened the box and tried them out, I fell in love immediately after 5 minutes of using them. Something about the design of how they taper in both directions makes them extremely comfortable to my hands. And the quality is very good for the price. I will definately be getting the rest of the set and I hope they continue to make these for years to come. I highly recommend artist and writers try these out for themselves

Color me impressed. I was a bit hesitant to order this as I'm not a huge Pilot fan, and even less of a fan of styrene barreled pencils. Boy was I wrong on both accounts. This is a well crafted pencil. Super smooth action, brass jaws, and all metal tip section. Nice work there Pilot! I'm a bit frazzeled that the mechanics are not removable from the body of the pencil (ala Graphgear 500 and the Graphlet line) but this seems to be a growing trend these days (heck even my Ohto PM500 is permenatly fixed in the body). The grip section is comfortable enough and extends half way up the barrel. The barrel itself has very little flex and seems surprisingly strong. It also tapers up to the end and feels very nice. Pocket clip is a an odd metal thing (extend 3/4 of the way around the barrel, but yet seems amazingly strong) THe eraser cap is super long and very hard to pull off (no feeling one way or the other) The eraser is pretty tiny with very little usable extra once worn down to the metal holder. On a great note a clean out wire is included (YEA!). 4 leads are included and I can only guess that they are Pilot's NEOX HB lead. Smooth writing and pretty consistent shading. All in all this is a nice pencil in the economy class. This will be going in my rotation and may be good enough to consider getting one of the higher S line offerings.

When I initially got this pencil I was upset because I wasn't paying attention and missed that it was .9 mm so it sat on the back burner for a while. However, once I started to use it I have fallen in love. The weight is so balanced and the entire body feels really steady. I'm not a fan of the lead they included only because it seems prone to smearing. Overall I really love this pencil, even the .9 mm lead size (which is super unusual for me).
